US would attack, and could "obliterate" Iran

oh dear, nothing quite like a "Strong Woman" in charge. Taken out of context these words are very dangerous...

"If I'm the president, we will attack Iran... we would be able to totally obliterate them.

"That's a terrible thing to say, but those people who run Iran need to understand that, because that perhaps will deter them from doing something that would be reckless, foolish and tragic," she told TV channel ABC.

Seem to remember those lines are similar to what started WWI&II. Oh well, maybe Mr Chips (McCain)is a better idea after all.

I think the context of these remarks should be stated. The above quote from Hillary was in response to the following question: "How would the USA respond to an Iranian nuclear attack on Israel?". In this context these remarks are simply a restatement of the principle of deterrence which has governed relations between nuclear armed states since the end of WW2.

Anyway, there are more than one reason why Iran would never nuke Israel in the first place. The main one being Israel has nukes of it's own and would immediately obliterate Iran in response. (deterrence again)

The reason (I believe) for Iran's nuclear ambitions are simple. To protect them from attack by the USA, nothing more.

Sounds like you don't like women. If she gets elected to the presidency lets hope she doesn't accidentally menstruate over some important piece of legislation.

Got nothing against women. Have a problem with women who try to play men at men's games the male way. As females we have much more sutble ways of doing things than the "my gun's bigger than your gun."

For a woman to get elected in America she has to show that not only does she have subtle ways of doing things, but she can play the commander in chief role too.

Everything that every candidate is presenting to the public is carefully weighted to come across well enough with the majority to get them elected.

Someone recently commented;

"...the present situation has been engineered by Kissinger (when he was Secretary of State), the IMF and the World Bank. The Saudis got conned into agreeing to buy in dollars and also buy US debt; the Iranians are preparing to dump a lot of cheap oil on the world market, with prices in euros (which will cause the immediate collapse of the dollar, as US national debt is now $8 trillion..."

I'm just patiently waiting & watching for news of another 'orchestrated' 9/11 type scenario which will be blamed on Iranians ;)

They are trying to build a nuclear weapon, or so I heard....

India has agreed to pay the price of crude oil it imports from Iran in gold, which makes it the first country to drop the US dollar for purchasing the Iranian oil.

According to a report published by DEBKAfile news website, unnamed sources have stressed that China is also expected to follow suit.

India and China take about one million barrels per day (bpd), or 40 percent of Iran’s total exports of 2.5 million bpd and both of them have huge reserves of gold.

It's worked,.... so far. :?

M.A.D. only works if those involved are not errr mad. i would trust neither of them to not use it first as a pre emtive strike; israel is just as rabid as iran. its not a new conflict im sure isreal is still annoyed about the persian empires attack on them.

DF Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz said on Tuesday that Iran should expect more "unnatural" events in 2012, an apparent reference to a spate of explosions that occurred recently in or near Iranian nuclear and military facilities in the country.

Less than a day after Gantz spoke, an Iranian nuclear scientist was killed by a bomb placed on his car on Wednesday in an attack Tehran's deputy governor blamed on Israel, raising the diplomatic temperature in a stand-off with the West over Iran's nuclear program.

Good news for metal speculators though.

Gold up 10% on rumours that India, China will pay in bullion for Iran oil - Fuelling the bullion’s newfound drive are rumours that India and China, one of the world’s largest oil consumers, are secretly mulling paying in gold for Iranian oil, and bypassing a European Union (EU) oil embargo on Iran, effective from July 1, 2012.

I would hazard a guess that if anyone is going to attack Iran - in the absence of a credible "state-funded" terror attack on the West - it will be Israel.

Iran is probably the most vociferous of all Arab states in their opposition to the continuation of a Jewish-majority state, and their support for those who strike at Israel.

Similarly, Israel has, since its formation, been hardened and forged by bitter experience into a paramilitary state that will "take on" any of its Arab neighbours who f**k with it.

Israel is unique in the world, I believe. A tiny country, surrounded entirely on its landward borders, by neighbours who are committed to the total destruction of the Zionist state and a return of all lands therein to the Palestinian (Arab) people. War after war, conflict after conflict - whether started by others, as in the Civil War following UN Resolution 181 - or provoked by themselves. It matters not. This "rabidly" patriotic nation has bloodied nose after nose, whether one at a time, or several at once, demonstrating to their enemies that you will know no peace or rest if you strike at them (Wrath of God, anyone?). During Desert Storm, you might remember that El Al laid on massively subsidised flights to Israel from all over the world, for the flood of Jews returning or travelling to their (sprititual) homeland in order to assist in its defence, if required.

I very much doubt that, were England to attack an independent Scotland, to take back North Sea oil (tongue firmly in cheek), ex-pats would do the same to such an extent. You might get Shir Shean rattling a sabre in the press, if youre lucky!

But with a mindset ingrained and instilled by 65 years of hatred, warfare, conflict and bloodshed, is it any surprise that Israel are so rabid in their stance? And add to that 2,000 years of being repeatedly persecuted, victimised, attacked, insulted, dispossessed, murdered, and on several occasions - most notably Mr Schicklegruber's attempts - slaughtered in their millions, simply for their religious beliefs. It only surprises me that they have not invaded and annexed their hapless, hollow neighbours long, long ago, expanding their state further still! That they have not done so - and I honestly think they were more than capable of doing so, particularly after the 6 Day War (they took on UAR/Egypt, Jordan and Syria, massively outmanned and outgunned and won... in SIX days?!) - indicates to me that expansionism is not a concern, and rather that they seek to "protect" and maintain their sworn "covenant with God".

Again, this fundamental belief makes them unique in the world. Their belief in this covenant is instilled into their children from birth. These same children - men and women - then serve mandatory periods of active service and training in the Israeli defence forces, where they receive intensive training, and often active service. This prepares them for the call to arms, if ever required, and further promotes the fierce philosophy of the native born Sabra.

While this fierce defensive nature exists (and their idea of best defence is offence!!) it will be a long, long time before there is any amicable relationship between Israel and her neighbours. And it's highly likely that this same "defensive" philosophy will lead to further intervention in the Iranian nuclear program (drive-by of that scientist, anyone? ).

I feel that it's important to understand WHY the Israelis are the way they are about their neighbours and their borders, right or wrong, rather than just labelling them as "rabid". Equally, it's important to understand why her neighbours act and feel the way they do towards Israel.

We all have reasons why we do things. They may not make sense or be conscionable to others, but to us, with our individual beliefs or experiences? Perfect sense. And, once explained or researched, we can understand, if not condone. It's only through understanding that we can seek to approach and consult and amend (hopefully) such skewed or weighted ideals and beliefs. Even if its just a tiny little bit at a time. An avalanche begins with a snowflake (grasshopper!).

Shouting or ranting, fighting and arguing, never got anyone anywhere. But it keeps politicians in a job...
