JohanofNess
I wasn't having a go at you Penfold. Just using your quote to make a point about the over protection of parks in Shetland. I inspected two of them at Cunningsburgh and Boddam 3 weeks ago and neither could be accused of being over protected. In fact I wouldnt play on Boddam for at least another 3-4 weeks as it just wasn't draining.

Stoichkov
God help us if we had Manchester or Glasgows rainfall figures (which are higher than Shetlands) and they only stop playing in May. We over protect our surfaces! I can certainly vouch for the fact that Glasgow does get a higher rainfall than Shetland. As well as this, having played fitba in Glasgow, i can also vouch for the fact that they underprotect their pitches. 90% of the pitches are an absolute disgrace. They are a complete mud bath from Oct to about March and then its like playing on a beach in the summer months as they are all hard and sandy. As a result it becomes more of a battle than a football match. The pitches in Shetland are probably about the best local examples you could find anywhere in this country. They are well kept and as a result of playing in the summer they stay in good enough condition to play decent football on. If we have to postpone the season for a couple o weeks i would say it is worth it, to avoid tearing up the pitches. Although i think the weather is showing us that in order to have a good length of season, an extra all weather pitch needs to be invested in. glenn
The Scalloway v Ness Utd will go ahead barring any torrential downpours between now and friday. After that I will be making a decision on a day by day basis whether or not games will go ahead. Like Penfold I must also praise the various council employees that I have had dealings with, they really have been incredibly helpful over the past year (please note praise as i'll have to call again on you soon!). JohanofNess
^^^JoN have you just let an opportunity pass to shamelessly plug your plastic pitches? Well now you come to mention it EnW an all weather pitch with a properly engineered base wouldn't have waterlogging problems
