Yep, you do, it's just that Shetland ants are nice little critters and keep themselves to themselves. :wink:


I rarely or never see them around the garden really, but you do find them in the hills amongst the heather and elsewhere.

You can find them around the top of stony beaches too. Watch out if you're sitting among any foliage or undergrowth - I nearly got bitten to death at Fladdabister years ago, minding my own business sitting at the top of the beach. Funnily enough, I didn't realise there were ants in Shetland... until then :(
