Salmon
ofc it is all done without reason, oh sorry I forgot everyone is just stupid and doesn't have a clue what they are doing. Never a truer word said with regard to the SIC. The roundabout is a poetic over kill....a whim..an "oh wouldn't it look nice" "yes let's give it a wee sparkle" " and an inner red lane that will confuse the hell out of every Shetland motorist that has a problem negotiating roundabouts as they are. 99% of vehicles on this road are going NORTH or SOUTH...a cone in the middle of the road would have done. MaxFusion
methinks someone needs to find out facts before they sprout sh*te salmon how is it overkill? it's just a roundabout..... lock block is probably cheaper than bitmac anyway and as for the slabs and crushed glass centre, well that was paid for by the Amenity trust afaik....didn't it say something similar in the times the other week?http://www.shetland.gov.uk/news-advice/prinfra300708.asp Maybe these "shetland motorists" of which you speak should do a refresher course in driving anyway...it's no just roundabouts that seem to confuse them, a bog standard T junction stumps quite a few o them too! trooter
Heading into Lerwick isn't the left lane for straight on and turning left and the right lane for turning right? You'd have to be able to fit two cars side by side going around it in that case but isn't that possible without going on the red bit? By having the car going straight on hug the left edge of the roundabout? Road markings been removed this morning as you enter Lerwick from South
MaxFusion
yups, noticed that last nite as I went hom.....some daft tw*t obviously thinks there isn't enuff for the general public to complain about on council spending down there already
shetlandcars
What is it with people indicating right when they're going straight on on the Grantfield roundabout... Cretins. http://www.safermotoring.co.uk/Roundabouts.html
Roachmill
And why is it they only tend to indicate right when out of town... but not when heading in to town? Like shetlandcars link says: To Go Straight On (leaving at the second exit) * Choose the appropriate lane on approach to and on the roundabout. If you can't see the markings on the road then it is usually the safest option to keep in the left lane. * Stay in this lane until you are getting ready to exit the roundabout * Indicate left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.No mention of firing up the right indicator anywhere
bobbyw
Is it just me or is the new roundabout at the south road a silly size? The roundabout is a great big fancy thing leaving the bare minimum for cars to go round the thing.

MuckleJoannie
This morning I followed two cars up to the new roundabout this morning coming into Lerwick. The first one drew into the left turn lane and the second into the straight ahead/turn right lane. They then both tried to drive into the onto the straight ahead exit. Fortunately the second car slowed up when the driver realised what was happening and avoided a collision. This is not the first time I have seen drivers not knowing what lane to use at a roundabout. Several months ago I was coming up to the Tesco roundabout when the car in front went into the left turn lane, indicated right and went straight on.
