Some fantastic tracks on this thread.

Slightly off-topic but a couple of years ago I was lucky enough to be at Islesburgh during the Folk Festival when a session comprising amongst others, Elana James, Beau Sample and Brian Gear was going on.

To stand in that room while some of Shetland's top musicians in the crowd were watching and listening completely spellbound was a never-to-be-repeated experience.

Elana James (who had been touring with Bob Dylan the year before) was totally entranced by Brian's superlative playing and the way they all gelled together was near enough musical perfection.

I was so thankful and so lucky to be there, at that time.

So, for me, nothing but nothing beats live music.

Similarly being the only non musician in Room 11 during the A&F Festival last year while Gary Peterson, Grant Nicol and Derek Hendry were cracking at was absolutely magical.

^^ You must be nearly as old as me.

I'd forgotten about Elkie, 'Pearl' was good, as was 'Fool'. Had I written my list back then it would probably have included Pussycat's 'Mississippi, Renaissance's 'Northern Lights' and Soho's 'Hippychick' too.

Of course, fool that I was, I had to move on and discover the finer points of rock and metal, and that was all she wrote.

^^^as young as you, you mean  young at heart anyway

Oh the shame, fancy forgetting Elkie :D

She's still about and touring the UK this year, mostly to sell outs, new album out Live With Friends, a lot of the old uns, and some new uns.

She's such a petite lady with a big, big voice.

I've just remembered why I have 'Refugee' by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as my ringtone - it always cheers me up. Everytime I've heard that song lately it feels as if I've just heard it for the first time even though I've been listening to it since I was ickle. :D

I also like:

'Dimming of the Day' - Bonnie Raitt

'Everlong' - Foo Fighters

'Black Velvet' - Alannah Myles

'Travelin' Soldier' - Dixie Chicks

'Lay All Your Love On Me' - ABBA

'I Touch Myself' - the Divinyls (sorry)

'The Sun's Comin' Over the Hill' and 'Azalea Flower' - Karine Polwart

'All I Want Is You' - Barry Louis Polisar

'Anyone Else But You' - Moldy Peaches

'End of the Line' - Travelling Wilburys

'Moonshadow' - Cat Stevens

'Pink Cadillac' - Bruce Springsteen

I'm gonna stop for now...
