So why would he not claim the same? That he was with this group of friends, rather than "cycling outside Kirwall"? Why would he pass up the oppurtunity of having a group as an alibi? Perhaps he forgot....

 

The fact that he didn't mention this in his alibi would say to me that either he was cycling around Kirwall as per his original story, or he is guilty. Either way, that makes her a liar.

His actions following the verdict certainly did a lot to convince me it was the correct one, up til then though I was pretty dubious about a 15 year old having the nerve to carry out what was described as something akin to a professional hit, especially when it seemed motiveless.

 

I don't know much about what was presented in court though so wouldnt jump to any conclusions on who is lying about what. I'm sure I cant remember exactly what I was doing on a particular night 14 years ago, even the more memorable events like getting married I couldnt give a decent chronology on now.

 

Tankerness Gardens, where she claims they were, are only about 500 yds from the restaurant arent they (Or is my Orcadian geography wonky)? So it doesnt sound like a perfect alibi given that he could have cycled there and back in under 10 minutes anyway.

 

Still, it'll be interesting to see if anything comes of this, as I said before she sounded credible - I wasn't proposing myself as her defence council though

Although you make a very good point, as I certainly couldn't say where I was on a random night 1 year ago, never mind 14. Although, if I were in such close proximity to such an event perhaps it would be different, I don't know.

It only sounds credible because of this intended unintention. If she had said "yes a few grand in the pocket would be great " then she would have sounded less credible or if the reward had not been offered then the timing for her testimony would still seem strange but this is all bang on.

I would be more dubious about a professional carrying out a professional hit in a crowded restaurant. (Unless it was a police operation)
