soundview
Could have been but there were no green L plates.
piggywiggie
You don't have to have the green plates. In fact it's very rare to see them.
soundview
They're not compulsory but folk are more understanding when they see them. If you need to go round a gentle bend at 40 then you should have the green plates. If you want to drive slowly, let other cars past!
shetlandpeat
Let folk drive to their own levels of confidence and if you can pass them do so, why should they have to accommodate you, they are not breaking any laws. They are not slow moving. Too many a time I have seen folk make stupid an dangerous manoeuvres out of a lack of patience. Chill and live. piggywiggie
It takes confidence to drive on your own after just passing. People should be considerate to all drivers wether they have played ôr not. You get nowhere faster by driving stupidly. Especially up here. Chances are uou will overtake then have to slow down right after.
soundview
I'm pretty sure you can be pulled over and fined for driving too slowly. Unless that's just on motorways? And, SP, it was not just me that was wanting to be "accommodated"! There was a cue of traffic behind this car. Who should be thinking of who? Should the slow driver not realise he/she his holding up a line of cars and let them past when it's safe to pull over? I wouldn't overtake unless it was safe but there are plenty less chilled drivers out there that would. Not much you can do about them but it doesn't help when someone is holding up the north end of the A970.

Use the green L plates! There's no shame in it, I used them, my brother and sister used them, not sure if it helped but hey! People should be considerate to all drivers, that includes the ones who prefer to drive 20 mph under the limit thinking about the vast majority of other drivers that like drive at 55/60 most of the time. muggins
3 occaisions lately ive been quite amazed , a red audi went to "undertake" on the brig o fitch and had to come to a screaming halt as there was a car coming out the junction , and a black astra overtaking with no visibility ahead and the same with a blue audi near brae today , do these folk not know how sore it is to "head on" other cars ? or better still go under a truck ? , never mind , the rest of us will gladly pay for it in rip off insurance prices
JustMe
I'm pretty sure you can be pulled over and fined for driving too slowly. Unless that's just on motorways?I am pretty sure that driving north on the main road at 40mph would not be illegal but that holding up others by driving at 40mph on the bits where others cannot pass and then speeding up to the legal limit could be held to be driving without due care and attention or something similar.........even for a new driver. shetlandpeat
Slow moving vehicles are tractors and other slow vehicles. The motorway has a minimum speed limit. A roads, and others do not. You and the others wanted to get past, you are the ones who have to be considerate when overtaking. I wonder why someone should have to constantly interrupt their journey pulling in and then risking pulling out with a bunch of faster cars behind them, on a bend too.Remember also, the maximum speed for any HGV in Shetland is 40 mph as well. Would you expect a 30 odd tonne lorry to do the same?
soundview
Whatever you view on the matter the fact is being stuck in a line of traffic on the main road doing 40 is bloody annoying!
tabbahenry
just how many hgvs do you see doing 40mph they all was are doing between 50 to 60 . and you never here about one getting done for speeding .
Clooty Cap
I'm with soundview on this one, a car driving considerably slower than the allowed speed limit is one of the most frustratiing things you can come across while driving. I would also like to ask those who seem to be condoning the slower drivers amongst us, what do they think would happen if you drove at 10mph lower than the allowed speed limit during your driving test and why do you think the reason would be for this would be? Guest Anonymous
People are going to have to re-think their attitude towards slow drivers as the price of fuel approaches £2.00 a litre. You'll be classed as reckless and maybe even worthy of abuse should you ever overtake someone once it reaches £3.00 and it'll be by the very same people on here that can't travel any of the short distances in Shetland without feeling they're being robbed of 5 minutes of their life. piggywiggie
I just don't get why people feel the need to get somewhere so quick. Especially up here! Ok maybe if ur cutting it fine for plane or boat? Or emergency? But really up here speeding doesn't get you anywhere quicker. Enjoy the views!!!
