Well said Marshall, I was very impressed with Johns own commitment to the fund raising in the build up to the games, he was with the boys at car washes, bag packing ,Sunday teas, etc etc. He didn't have to be there himself, but he was always there. I also think Erik Peterson was always Johns number one goalie, and Dinwoodie was taken to raise morale, and back up if neccesary.

There used to be a advert placed in the times before the draw was made, but Im not sure, Its as case of getting intouch with the SFA fixtures secretary and making them aware of your interest or not, theres a committee meeting on the 9th so it would be an idea to let him ken before then.

Penfold, do might be able tae help we this question?, when is the last (A League) cup final of the season? I see the last league games are on the 31st o august.

The reason I ask is that wir planning an 'Inter Wastside' 6 aside tournament for da 1st saturday after the season finishes and I'm hoping persuade a certain Delting player currently residing in Clousta and Donaldo of Whitedale to play for Clousta!

Dat is what was planned Kevin, County Shield final is the 5th of September, though there is a Unst v Whalsay, and a Ness v Unst games to be re-fixtured so Im not sure when they will be though it could end up after the County Shield.

Planning on pitting out a clousta cosmos all-star team are you

It would seem that the players are divided as to how the manager picks and sets out his team. I know quite a few of them are unhappy about the managers decisions but respect Johns authority. John has the highest profile job in sport in these Islands and will come in for critisism whatever Shetlands results are but that is the nature of the job and it wont take a wrinkle out of him.

John may not be the master technician in setting out a football team but his resolve is his strength and he has another year in the job to take this team to the next level. The quality of players in Shetland football isn't as good as it could be for various reasons but there is a crop of youngsters ready to move into the senior league and John would be wise to look at the players who will be filtering into the senior league in the next couple of seasons.

Looks like it is going to be a lovely day for the inter county match this evening. It promises to be a very close match, hopefully the recent high level competition that Shetland had in Aland will prove the difference.

Look forward to seeing a good turnout at the Gibbie, 6pm Kick Off.

Good luck to both teams - will be a shock if Shetland don't win.

Shetland has only lost once in the last 19 games with Orkney.

17 years ago John Jamieson and Rab Duffin were the coaches that led a Shetland select team(that I captained) to the Grampain Football festival, and since then i have held him in high regard. A very personable, positive and consructive manager even then. "It's no aboot da first 8, it's aboot da first 12" was the very first signs of a manager introducing the idea of squad rotation! I must add it was a 8-a-side tournament, stick with JJ i say.
