Yet the last 2 wknds where it has been organised, it has had to be cancelled shortly after because teams are not willing to put a team in and play. It now seems the competition won't go forward at all this year.This is appaling for all that refused to enter, even more so considering every team in the assosciation, barring Unst, voted "for" this change. It has ruined the competition for this year. Surely it will be changed back to the original format now? the format that had no problems what so ever. the u21's is a great tournament as it allows youngsters that rarely play senior football, to become a key part of the side.I too would like to hear some good excuses as to why any parish was unable to provide a side for a 7 a side tournament. Other points of note were the change of the Under 21's Parish Cup from a 11-a-side knockout tournament to a one day 7-a-side tournament, the present set-up of teams like Southend Utd and Sandwick as well as Cunningsburgh and Burra and Whitedale and Westside Utd being amalgamated to form 11 a side teams will cease and each team will field a separate 7 a side team in the competition there will also be no allowance to field overage players, teams can have a squad as large as they like but must name 11 players per game e.g. 7 starting players on the pitch and four subs. I remember thinking it was a bad idea at the time, but didn't bother complaining because....... It is proposed to try this set-up as a trial for one year if people don't feel they like it then please remember to attend next years AGM to make your views heard. I figured that since this was voted for at the AGM, it must be what all the teams wanted With the season all but over, it's now time for people to start ignoring the posts of "attend the AGM". As sometimes a team reaches the final while the other half may be at the quarter final stage and have to wait ages for the final. Last year's final was way into september was it not? I think having the tournament in Unst has put a lot of teams off as its pretty far to travel, especially since 3 of the 10 teams are from the south mainland. But i agree that its not really much of an excuse for not playing the comp, just stating why i think it keeps getting cancelled and may not be played at all. penfold Posted August 25, 2008 Report Share Posted August 25, 2008 In respect to the date chosen the 17th of August? for the South mainland clubs it was a poor date as Ness were playing on the 16th and the 18th, A bit more consultation on the date might have helped out. I dont think any of the south mainland teams have any problems travelling up to Unst for it if thats what you were getting at. No, more involvment from people who wont get involved would go a long way to move things forward, the office bearers were willing to stand-down this year but there were no takers.
