paulb
we will class any where more than 3 miles away from lerwick as the country. what the apeal of the town it usually has the worst weather and is very crowded together.
trooter
I live in Lerwick but would much rather live in the country, although it is handy as i work in Lerwick and can go home for something to eat instead of having to go to a shop or cafe for a sandwich etc.
shetlandtraders
I've lived in both, and I couldn't wait to get out of Lerwick and move back into the country. I'm a Shetlander, and after trying both, theres no comparison for me, the peace and quiet of the country. But I understand why folk would live in Lerwick due to the pubs, resteraunts, supermarkets etc.
MJ
Now if I were sooth it'd be different, but a choice o lerwick or not it'd have to be not. I like lerwick, it's handy having friends and family there when you need to stay in for the night. but actually live there... na gi me country every time (afraid scalloway/sandwick/brae kind of get lumped in as being tooniefied too)
sassermaet
^^^You're not far wrong about Brae. Personally I'm not fussed - I was born and raised in Brae, but since I currently study in Glasgow I'd cope if I moved to Lerwick I'm sure. In fact, since it would be so nice for everything to be handy I think I'd cope rather well...

JohanofNess
Depends on what you want, personally prefer living in the town after having lived in the country most of my life. Although it is funny to hear Lerwick folk call anyone from outside Lerwick a hillbilly I mean it's not New York is it
Fifi
looking at the sky news it says lerwick is the sunnest town in britain. it must really be raining down . so is lerwick the sunnest place in shetland. at the moment everybody prefers the country.I saw it mentioned on BBC1 Breakfast this morning. They said something to the effect that Lerwick was the one place in the UK to have had higher than average hours of sunshine, with 136hrs in Aug > while most of the UK didn't even reach their average. However.. while they are probably going by figures from Lerwick, you could probably say 'Shetland' rather than just 'Lerwick' in the above context. And.... everyone knows that Lerwick is prone to mist in the summer while those of us on the west or north west are basking in sunshine! It would be interesting to see month by month sunshine figures for various parts of Shetland!

Twerto
I currently live in the country but am soon to move back to town, it is purely economics and the fact to be closer to everything I'm involved with from work to friends that is bringing about the move, IF i could afford the time and cost then i would love to stay in the country. Until such a time then town it is.
