Njugle
Sack the ferry crews and build a large catapult then see who REALLY needs to come across. Mind out for the off course flying Ford Cortinas landing in the Peerie Shop window.I like the way you're thinking Bigmouth. Perhaps a Tight-rope for foot passengers too! I'd go to Lerwick just to watch the show
drew_peacock
Why don't they build a bridge from each side and leave a gap of 100 feet or so. The boyracers could then sort out the real flying machines from the wannabe's by trying to cross the abyss in a petrol fuelled frenzy that could be sponsered by the local garage operators. All the budding machine heads that don't make it could be recycled as part of the span needed for the final piece of the bridge. On another note, why does the SIC waste money on the ferries that run to Yell and Unst. Nobody I know ever goes there, so why doesn't the council close these Islands down and move the inhabitants onto the Mainland. I'm sure they would appreciate it in the long run. Guest Anonymous
Sooo.... Where are all my former classmates from the AHS Class of 1970something through all this?!?! As best as I can recall the concept of having the Bressay contingent spending 7 or 8 hours per day, 5 days a week in the town, was no more welcomed by the Lerwick boys, than it was relished by the Bressay ones, and the same could be said in reverse if Lerwick had cause to visit Bressay. The thought at that time of any sort of fixed link where both sides could move freely to either side at any time, would almost certainly have been sabotaged and shot down as soon as it was uttered. Where are you guys?
JustMe
Well local radio reports that the council and the Port Authority are going to meet......in Aberdeen. A good way to spend money if nothing else. I have been listening and thinking about the whole issue....including listening to Bressay folk....and it seems to me that there is a lot of folk wanting to keep the ferry. Perhaps going back to a referendum with the right questions would be better than heading off to Aberdeen. There also seems to be a feeling that the whole "bridge or nothing" movement comes from some senior council members. Maybe putting the whole thing on ice until after the next local elections might lead to whatever the right solution is. My own view is that a bridge would be great in good weather, a tunnel would be scary and the ferry is ok......but I am speaking as a Lerwick resident and a pedestrian. A good way to spend money if nothing else. Surely would have been a better idea to meet on the Bressay Ferry. Expensive cooncil meetin' table goin' fae wan end tae da idder. Smirk goin' by in a dinghy sketchin' awa. Pre-assembled groups at either side to stop them coming ashore until a decision had been agreed. Somebody would have to give somewhere. JustMe
Just read a report on the Shetland News website that quotes a figure of £23 million got the bridge. Seem to remember the council agreed that the project costs were to be capped at £19 million. Funny sort of cap!.

Njugle
More like one of those comedy "beer-hats", wher you put it on, add extra bits on top and then suck them dry, whilst getting drunk on the proceedings, losing all sense of perspective........ sorry i got carried away there
