daveh
I want to buy two lorry staps (at least, that's what I think they are called) to help hold down my newly-erected greenhouse against the winter winds (actually, it's a bit breezy out there now). The greenhouse is 8 feet wide and rises in the Apex to about 8 feet also. I thus need to ensure that the straps are long enough to cope with the width and height of the structure and also have enough extra so that the fittings (which are also needed with it) can be cemented in and bolted down on each side; perhaps at least 2 feet clear on each side. Any suggestions as to where I can get these (including fittings) and, perhaps, how long straps I might need? Any help will be appreciated.Thanks. beachcaster
JB's Autoshop has small rachet straps. I think they are 5 metres long, which might be long enough but if it isn't then just use a bit of rope to extend them to the proper length. I think they are about £7 each. Hobbiniho
do you have a concrets base to sit the shed on?? if so the best thing you cound do is use hilti hit, basically you drill a hole and put some of this stuff in and put some kind of bolt with a ring on the end and whenits set it is as hard as stone as for the straps you should be able to buy them from places like buildbase/Lbc/Ditt/giffords, and if they are long enough to hold down stuff on the trucks im sure they will be plenty long for holding down a green house, thing is you will need to be careful that you dont over tighten them or you will break your greenhouse
daveh
Thanks, guys. I really appreciate your replies. The greenhouse itself is on a concrete base but there is soil on each side so I will need to put some concrete in where the fittings for the straps will go. I have never previously hear of hilti hit. Hobbiniho
is there any concrete either side sticking out??? if not the best you will need to get some kind of eyelets something like this http://www.berkeleypoint.com/products/hardware/parts/ring_bolt_plain_a.jpg make sure that it isnt smoothe or it will just pull out if the concrete you should be able to get something like this from buildbase/lbc/ditt/garriocks etc hilti hit is really good stuff but i think its rather expensive and you would have to rent the kit from garriocks or giffords but it is great stuff
beachcaster
I think you can get Thunderbolts with eyes on them from the Lerwick Building Centre. They are easy to use, just drill a hole and screw them in.
daveh
Thanks again. There is very little concrete on either side of the greenhouse but I will check to see just how much.
