Fifi
"Huge tidal power plan for Scotland" "Hundreds of underwater turbines are to be anchored to the ocean floor as part of plans to build the world’s biggest tidal farm off the north coast of Scotland. The Crown Estate is to invite bids from Britain’s major power companies to use the ocean current to drive generators that will provide enough electricity to power a city the size of Edinburgh. The tidal farm will be completed by 2011 and, if successful, it is anticipated that further farms will be built around the Orkney and Shetland Isles, capable of producing 25,000 megawatts, four times the peak amount currently used in Scotland. ...Although most renewable developers have focused on wind power, virtually every proposal has met stiff resistance from local communities who argue that wind turbines affect tourism, kill birds of prey and create noise pollution. Critics also point out that output is dependant on strong winds, which are intermittent. Harnessing the energy of underwater currents is seen as the most efficient way of producing green energy and ensuring that Scotland reaches a government target of producing 50% of its power from renewables by 2020." http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/scotland/article4837701.ece "Tidal power harnessed to provide green energy" "The world’s largest tidal-powered energy farm could be built in British waters. Three sites are under investigation by Scottish Power – two off Scotland and one off Northern Ireland – for up to 60 underwater turbines generating 60MW of power for 40,000 homes. ScottishPower, the energy company behind the plans, said that the technology, which will replicate a Norwegian project at Hammerfest, could make Scotland the global leader in the field." http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/scotland/article4842959.ece "Scottish Power to lead the charge towards tidal power" "Scotland is to become a pioneer in generating electricity from the sea, Scottish Power (LSE: SPW.L - news) will say on Monday when it unveils plans for the world's biggest tidal power project and a factory to make tidal turbines." http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/28092008/399/scottish-power-lead-charge-towards-tidal-power.html
crofter
And we all laughed at Greenheatman! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uoZb3ffz05Q I wonder how his prototype is coming along?

Malachy
And we all laughed at Greenheatman! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uoZb3ffz05Q I wonder how his prototype is coming along? I see he's not got any more instructive in his demonstrations: water + thing in water + cables + power = proof.
Tomblands
He is missing a pointless graph though, it's not proof without a flakey graph.

Or 6 I love the bit in brackets: "The only non-intermittent renewable energy system in the World (when built)."
Pooks
I seem to think that there are already one or two threads around here that posts referring to Gentec Venturi can be moved to. Can we please keep this topic focused on the OP news item.
