shetlandcars
I bought a cheap tesco value kettle when the ex/sommerfield store opened in lerwick and Ive just realised that the clicking noise ive been hearing in the kitchen for the last few weeks has been the kettle heating up by itself with no water in it! Thought id let you know in case you also have one that has a mind of its own. its the ones they had on offer at about £5 in white tesco value packaging, could have burnt the house down
RickB
I assume that you took it back. They need to know that they are selling dangerous goods. On the other hand, it could just be a one off fault in the kettle you bought.
paulb
take it back you wont have a problemthey are very good at replacing faulty goods. unlike comet we had a vacuum off them we had it for a day and the motor went. refused to replace or refund tried the trading standards and it would have cost us more than the thing was worth. never went there again
shetlandcars
I took it back on the mainland as im living there at the moment. They couldn't care less and refused to refund unless I had my reciept, they didnt even appologise regarding the fact it could have caused a fire. I dumped it on their service desk and walked out. fairislefaerie
You should have taken the kettle to trading standards and left it with them, they'd not take a refusal as an answer to getting their hands slapped for selling dodgy goods. shetlandcars
i don’t have the patience, It was just a cheap kettle - however the fact that it can heat up without even being switched on would indicate to me a design flaw rather as a one off faulty product and to be met by a completely indifferent girl on the returns desk who was taking more glee in the fact I didn’t have a receipt rather as the obvious safety concern. I just walked away in disgust and left it with them Its more of a heads up really to let you know in Shetland, where they sold a load of them to be on the look out. paulb
if it happens again ask to speak to the manager. was it one of the cordless ones they have now discontinued them. though at a fiver the quality control is not going to be to good. we once bought a cheap steam iron from asda it looked great it heated up fine but it was rubbish at ironing it would not glide. that went in the bin
shetlandcars
if it happens again ask to speak to the manager. we no longer shop at tesco because of this and in doing so have found that ASDA is far cheaper
shetlandcars
Saying that im sure its swings and roundabouts - im sure ASDA may be just as bad at customer service - its just I havent had chance to witness it yet! Also a cheap kettle is no excuse for a dangerous one - really the attitude of the girl was something to behold, couldn't care less, even called her manager to back her up
tlady
^^ I think you might have got a different response if you'd told them you were taking your kettle to trading standards.
