beckb
I hope you don't mind me asking these random questions as they pop into my head, even though i can get lots of answers from various sites its really useful to hear your opinions,my husband now has a job interview and will be visiting in a few weeks. What is driving like in Shetland, are the roads quite,i hate driving here because everyone is in such a rush, there are so many cars,I'm wondering if it will be easier in Shetland? What(in your opinion) is the best and worst place to live and why? What is the education like, and what year group would an 8 year old be in,birthday end of March? What is healthcare like,is it easy to get a doctors appointment, what is the hospital like, can it cope with all things or would you have to be transferred else wear for some treatment? What is the ambulance service like? Are there NHS dentists,we have none where we are have to go private! What would you say is the best and worst part of living on the Shetland Isles?I told you they were random questions ,i keep thinking of things i need to know, especially with young children the healthcare and emergency services are very important, well for everybody there important. Thanks for your time,Becky. Para Handy
Having driving south a lot over the past 7 Years I can say with that worst roads in Shetland are a lot better than most of the roads in mainland UK
paulb
you must remember that this is a sall island group your health services are not going to equal those of a large city. you will be cared for upto a point that they believe you need medi vacing to abeerden. any specialist treatments like cancer will be south as well hence the campain for a new centre for patients and famlies in aberdeen. each area has its doctors, dentist and other health services. each area has a care centre. the roads the main north south road and other main roads are duel carrageways and can be occupied by rather fast drivers however as long as you know the road its a very easy drive. living on the west side we mainly have single track roads with passing places again these are fine but you must be paitent and stop either in or opposite the said places. each aea has its plus and minus points for example a lot of people from lerwick will not live in the country and there are others who prefer the country. it all depends on whay you want in life.winter up here is grey and dull so make sure you come upbwith your husband and spend an extra day or two having a look around. in general the south is less wild than the north in hills ect. there is more beaches down south. apart from a few large villages/small towns the islands are country. if you move to the country expect to travel a lot. if staying in lerwick expect to be living on top of each other. this place is not perfect but its a lot better than towns in the south. it would be good if you had a hobby winters are long. the schools are some of best resourced ones in the country. your kids will love the schools as they are desperate for new kids lots of one on one attention. they will make friends easily as the folks are outgoing. Marooned in Maywick
^^ Each area doesn't have its own dentist. There are NO dual carriageways in Shetland - there are two-lane A class roads. They are, in general, excellently maintained.
lauraellington
Does anyone know if you can bring pets into the country? We have two dogs and a cat. If I can't bring them, I don't think I can move there. I know some countries have rules about animal transportation, etc.
