Extruded windbreak fencing wanted

I posted a request earlier but it seems to have disappeared.

I am looking to buy some green extruded fencing windbreak. Lerwick Building Centre have some but it is over £5 per metre. Is there anywhere else in Shetland that sells it where it might be cheaper? I have tried some windbreak netting around the veggie plot but that wasn't good enough for the job.

Thanks

If you use this http://www.kaysdiscountgarden.co.uk/sei/s/2964/e/pptn1x50.jpg and fix it properly it will last for years, Rosa Steppanova has had hers 30 years.

You need to fix it to a baton top and bottom, then put anothet baton on top, sandwiching the net between the two.

I've just got 75mtr X 1.5mtr for £92 including delivery, that's less than £1 a square metre, you can get it in lots of different length and width combinations

from here. Have fun. :D

the idea is to break the wind up not stop it. if it stops the wind completly the wind goes over the top and causes more damage. yes its at Gremista. just thought if you fold it in half you could get a simular effect to the fleece type. and in summer perfect as a bird net if growing fruit. and its free. but its very heavy so a trailer would be needed.

Thanks, all.

Paulb - I think my problem was that I had 2 metres-wide mesh netting and doubled it over. It effectively acted like a wall when the wind picked up and the wire fencing it was draped over actually ripped away from the fixings on the posts.

I am getting a quote from these people for their Windbreak Mesh - Hexagonal structure:http://www.boddingtons-ltd.com/forestry/windbreak-plastic-mesh.htm

It looks good stuff. I like the ide of putting a few lines of straining wires though it rather than use wooden battens top and bottom.

It really is very windy where we are (on a hill) and I have got to get this sorted before next year's growing season.

Thanks again.
