Promote Shetland are going to webcast the Up Helly Aa procesion again this year, using the 60 North TV broadcast suite at Mareel for the first time.

I believe it's the local businesses. Squads etc buy their own suits etc. I think the program says who has donated usually.

The Up Helly Aa Committee go around Lerwick businesses every year with what is called the Collecting Sheet. You will find siome details in the Up helly Aa programme, including who donated. Unless you actually see the sheet there is no way of knowing who donated what but I believe some local businesses are very generous.

Millie, Each guizer/member has to pay a membership fee plus there are donations and collections at mass meetings etc . This probably covers the basic running costs. The Hosts pay for the halls and catering and recover their outlay by inviting people willing to give donations for tickets.
