soljey
Well, we're maybe not Dylan Moran. I, too, didn't manage to get a ticketg to see him - who did?? Although, I did bump into him in Edinburgh a few weeks later. But there's six of us, who have been doing an evening class in stand-up comedy will be graduating on Friday, 21st November. We have to perform 3-5 minutes each to the public. Should be fun. But we need all the support we can get. Come along to the Sound Hall at 8-8.30pm. Tomblands
Any chance of this becoming a regular thing...not the graduating obviously, but a stand up night? Namely...are you planning on doing anything Christmas week? I like stand up, it would be good to see some new talent.
soljey
Here's hoping it can become something regular - and that others take part. As to what's happening Christmas week, dunno yet. Let's get Friday out of the way first.
peeriebryan
Article on Stand Up @ Sound I'm very much looking forward to Friday (doors open at 8pm - Tickets £7 from Shetland Box Office - 01595 745555), and there are plans to make local stand up nights a regular occurrence, as well as having locals support visiting comedians. There's certainly plenty of comical types around Shetland! Any suggestions folks?
EM
But there's six of us, ...We have to perform 3-5 minutes eachSo, 18-30 minutes of material. Seems a bit on the short side. Any suggestions folks?Give them more stage time perhaps?
peeriebryan
^ I believe the show is scheduled to finish around 10 with the six graduates of Sandy Nelson's nightclass, as soljey mentioned, and Sandy performing a longer set. Should be a good laugh
soljey
Peeriebrian's right - we're only part of the show. But we still want support. It's the first time any of us have done anything like this. Even the big names had to start somewhere.
Fifi
I think it's great - well done to all involved. All that's putting me off going is the thought of a 70 mile round trip on what might be a snowy night. > But very interesting, and hope it develops further with visiting comedians, as someone has already mentioned. Laughter's a great medicine!! Good luck to the 'graduates' or should that be 'break a leg'.
soljey
Yep, fifi. I agree. Our own comedy club would be great. Not all of us are musicians or artists - but can still add to Shetland's "culture".
peeriebryan
Standup@Sound is now sold out
soljey
Sold out?? That's brilliant. I paid enough folk to come along.
EM
Sold out?? That's brilliant.I don't think it at all brilliant. It is just inconvenient for people who intended to attend (like myself) who now discover they can't due to it not actually being Sound Hall but rather the small Baila room. JAStewart
If I was in Shetland I would've gone...
soljey
Of course, I don't mean it's brilliant for those that haven't got tickets. It's brilliant for those of us that are performing though. Also bearing in mind this is a bit of an experiment for Shetland and may lead to other things.
