JustMe
If you do not get satisfaction from housing you could try sending an e-mail to all of your councillors and perhaps having a chat with the Shetland tenants Forum.
X8
heh, in my experience being polite with them has little or no effect... fingers crossed for ya tho Then thats probably why you dont get very far!I've found Tony Dobson and the stand in from the south end very helpfull in the past, o.k., I have had to put my point strongly once or twice, but generally if you are entitled to it, you will get it.treat them like himans and not like something thats walked in on some ones shoe, you should be fine. The standard of the work (generally) is far superior to what you get from other councils too, with better materials.Remember they are 'civil' servants, not just servants. khitajrah
heh, in my experience being polite with them has little or no effect... fingers crossed for ya tho I received a reply an hour and a half after sending my email. They're going to come along to the house the beginning of next week. I'm all for being polite - kicking up a stink unless it's absolutely necessary isn't really my way of doing things (although I do realise sometimes it is necessary). Update: 18th December - Electrician came by in the morning to replace a faulty heating panel in the wee one's bedroom.
MaxFusion
X8, I turned like that after politeness got me nowhere.....I wouldn't say so otherwise! I've had dealings with them over maintenance in the past where they came out and told me the stupidest of things to fob me off. It was quite funny how they backtracked when they found out I knew what I was speaking about. like I said Khit, fingers crossed for ya they'll probably come and lay some ply over the floorboards for youthat was their "fix" for that particular problem in the past.I call it painting over the problem instead of solving it
sharalee99
I've not heard of 3pm to 6pm before.... Anyone here with the THTC (Total Heating Total Control) twin meter system gets much cheaper power for two or three hours twice a day, principally to recharge the storage heaters and heat water. If memory serves the timer switch kicks in between something like 4pm - 6pm and 4am - 6am every day in summer, and 3pm - 5pm and 3am - 5am in winter. I have got this tariff but only found out when I tried to switch suppliers. I have 3 bed bungalow, only 2 main heaters are on, with 1 in bathroom, and normal day to day electric use and I pay £131 a month. If you try to switch suppliers-you can't!When you try to do the price comparison, the THTC option is nowhere to be seen with the other suppliers,(its only a Hydro Tariff) so no comparison can be made, therefore you are stuck at Hydro and can't change. As for THTC being cheaper, I can't see any benefit anywhere. I do all the obvious-low energy lightbulbs, turning lights off. I've even had Hjaltland come and test all my electrical eqipment.I'm conviced the rest of the street is wired into my meter and I'm paying their electric too!!There's only 2 of us and I fail to see where it's all going. Neither of us is in all day.....
Ghostrider
^^ Bizarrely this place has no heater in the bathroom....brrrrrr! ....but all four other heaters are on the cheap THTC meter, as are the water heaters. Livingroom and kitchen are storage and convector combos and the bedroom and corridor are convector only. The convector parts of the two combos and the two convector only ones are available to use at the cheaper THTC rate 24/7, but the storage parts of the combos and water heaters will only work through the time switch. It might be worth asking the Hydro if you have any heaters etc that could be connected to the THTC rate, but aren't, or if you were to change to a different type of heater if they would be eligible for it. I'm pretty sure applicance eligibility has changed over the lifetime of the THTC scheme, an elderly relative got it in back in the late 80's when it was still relatively new, and if I remember right, at that time only the recharging of storage heaters could be connected to it. There were changes made after that though, this place was wired around 11-12 years ago.
