i dont think it would work here as i think the shetland audence are too touchy.

I think that if the comics slagged off the shops, builders or public people etc. then the people running that businese go into a mentle pleeps and would make it to dificult for the comics to live here. i can see the letters in the paper now!

i do think that more big names comming up might work as they would talk about life on the mainland or in gen. then its just about life in the uk and not to close, then i do think it would work, but not local people doing it. what to the rest of you think

I don't think that the Shetland audience is too touchy for humour - what about all the little skits that go on at local concerts, and the piss-takes that are a regular feature of Up Helly Aa?

I suppose the problem would lie in if someone started to be insulting rather than seeing the funny side - but chances are they wouldn't last long on stage!

How does an open mic night work anyway - do people get booted off if they are no good?

Its called open mike but it really means organised comedy as there would be about 5-6 people who each get 4-8 minutes of material, with an MC on before between and after.

Dont agree........UHA is proof enough of that. And even if it were going to happen the so what?. Perhaps better not to be too nasty to current or prospective employers but otherwise any business that has done something to gain the attentions of a comic should just take it with good grace.

And anyway there is nothing to say that local jokes have to be included. The rest of the world is out there waiting to be laughed at.

I know an Austrailian comic called Rowan who was living in Yell( he's the new art teachers partner) if he's still there I'm sure he would be up for doing some stand-up. I know he was keen to try it in Shetland when he moved up. So try to track him down.

Is it no Regatta? That guy seems to do a lot of things at the weekends, I just assumed he was some sort of entertainer, seems to tour around various country districts too. Though i dunna ken him me'sell.

Any idea what his surname is?

I'm no sure but it think it's something really Scottish like Mcgregor or something. Somebody could phone the Yell high school and aks his better half.

All the way from sunny Australia put your hands together for Rowan McGregor.( he might have a stage name?)

mark webster is no of shetland decent, rather whitburn, and he is not funny in any way shape or form. all he dus is rip aff ither folks jokes, trying tae pass dem aff as his ain, has no technique or ability in delivering jokes, and anything he dus manage tae cum up wi himsel is purely offensive and nasty.

he wid be a hell o a wrang choice tae dae it as he wid get aboadys backs up and get da place closed doon afore its even started. if i didna ken ony better i'd think dat JAStewart wis Mr Webster himself wi dat comment
