McFly
Patriotism is divisive and harmful, so I don't have much time for national anthems. But if you forced me to choose one it would be "Movin' On Up" by Primal Scream, and I would make it compulsory for everyone to hum/screech the guitar solo bit at the end. peeriebryan
Good idea McFly. Why have most of the suggestions so far been runny eyed, bagpipe screeching, folk and fiddle, lochs and heather, shortbread eating, kiltwearing nostalgia? Some of the suggested songs are bordering on racist, and they're a very small step away from the hatefuelled Sectarian songs which I experience on a weekly basis when I'm in Glasgow. Can we not move on from this type of thing Maybe something more contemporary? Which actually reflects the country we currently live in? A song about hammering the English hundreds of years ago, a Rabbie Burns poem or a man in France greetin about Scotland doesn't reflect a modern Scotland Am I mising something here? Tomblands
Ok. "Burning Love" by Elvis.
peeriebryan
Further to my last post, I didn't mean to insult anyone who likes the songs/tunes I mentioned. I have a soft spot for them too Maybe we should commission the Proclaimers to write something? But I suppose a national anthem would have to be in the nations psyche for a while for it to work, or we'd end up with something like the World Cup song travesties of the past But 'a-hunk a-hunk-a burning love' gets my vote so far……..! wally jumblat
I'd vote for 19 Bottles of Milk by Jack And Victor: http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/tv/chewinthefat/jack_and_victor/singalong.shtml (Select it from the bottom of the drop down list and click Go'). teenie
Billy Connoly - The Welly boot songRobert Burns - Scots Wha HaeParliment - We got da Funk (tear the roof off the mother) I do like McFly's suggestion of Movin on Up...think that would be very rousing whilst singing en masse and liberally fired up on whisky. Bring it on!
McFly
I've changed my mind. I want "Star Sign" by Teenage Fanclub instead.
Njugle
I'm not much of a Queen fan, but i do think Bohemian Rhapsody in all its glory would do the job nicely.

Everybody knows the words anyway. And we could have some great fun watching our national sports people doing air guitar before matches/events.
