MagnieMedia
LERWICK, Shetland, UK. – January 27 2009. - A new company specialising in the production of fictional drama films has been formed in the Northern Isles. Magnie Media Limited is the brainchild of three local leaders in drama, live events and film, Jacqui Clark, David Wagstaff and Tim Bentley.Magnie Media will initially be producing short films based upon original local material. The films will be cast, shot and produced using local actors, locations and services. Filming of the first of three short films to be produced this year will commence in early spring. The trio will then be sourcing other material to be adapted into screenplays as well as pursuing their longer term goal of producing a full-length feature film within the next five years. Speaking about the formation of the company, co-director Tim Bentley said “We’ve been talking about this for over eighteen months, but the time has never been right for all of us due to other work commitments. We are all now in a position to move this exciting project forwardâ€. The company has identified what they believe is a gap in the market – no other local company is making professionally produced dramatised films using the vast wealth of talent and resources that are readily available in the Isles. David Wagstaff said “There are other media companies and a whole range of individuals making lots of good quality productions. Most of this is, however, concentrated on factual or documentary film making rather than fictional drama. We think that Shetland has a lot more to offer the film-making community in Scotland and although things are going to be tough in these difficult financial times, we think that the time is right to put Shetland firmly on the map not only as a brilliant location, but as a place that can produce broadcast quality professional drama.Magnie Media plan to hold an open casting session at the start of February. They plan to give budding actors and actresses the chance to audition for the three short films they plan to make this year and also to build up a comprehensive database of potential “film-stars†for future productions. “There is no guaranteed formula when it comes to finding the right people†said local writer and Magnie Media Director Jacqui Clark. “You only have to look at what has happened in other areas of Scotland to see that there is a world of untapped talent out there. We want this project to be a platform for everyone involved to show what they can do. Adverts will be appearing in the local media this week giving details of what we are looking for and how to get involvedâ€. Magnie Media plan to have at least two of the films finished in time for this year’s Film Festival as well as to send to various film festivals which now take place annually across the whole of the UK. They will also be using their web-presence to promote the films and Shetland as a place for excellent film production. END OF PRESS RELEASE.
