Njugle
Either one of the greatest minds of the 20th century, or the one possessing the greatest speech-writer, Winston Churchill had indeed wisdom for every occasion. The most famous quote attributed to him, when accused of being a drunkard "That may be so madam, but in the morning i will be sober and you will still be ugly" is elusive on the net, maybe i'm misquoting it. However, he had plenty else to say: 'A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject.' 'The best argument against democracy is a five minute talk with the average voter.' 'I have taken more out of alcohol than alcohol has taken out of me.' 'Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.' 'The power of man has grown in every sphere, except over himself.' 'Don't talk to me about naval tradition. It's nothing but rum, sodomy and the lash.' Sir Winston Churchill, (attributed)Merely scratches the surface.
PoolHaddock
Agreed. Churchill is een o' my favourite historical characters, and he was certainly a character. Has anybody else watched the "Churchill's Bodyguard" series on the discovery channel? I've read a lot of his quotes, but een of my favourites is: "This is the sort of English up with which I will not put"........ classic! If asked to name some of the most influential speakers in history, Churchill wid certainly be een o' da first tae pop intae my heed. (not poop into my head) There's hundereds of absolutely classic Bush quotes as weel:"I think we agree, the past is over" There's so many it's unbelievable!
