MuckleJoannie
I needed to get my passport updated urgently so I could go to Canada for a funeral. I turned up at the Glasgow passport office with the photos I had had done by one of the photographers in Lerwick, only to be told that they were all wrong. Just as my heart sank to my boots the guy at the desk directed to the photo machine on the premises. The photos were far worse looking than the ones I had brought with me but the guy accepted them as being ok for my passport.
trowie246
We had passport photos taken at the camera shop. Thought it was going to be a bit of a nightmare as our youngest daughter was only 2 years old and they said the passport office was really strict as it is important now to see everyones eyes and babies/children must be looking straight at the camera. It was two young lasses and they were really good, they just kept bashing at until they had a photo they thought would be accepted. I wear glasses all the time and they told me to remove them for the photo which I thought was a bit strange at the time but they said it was o.k. khitajrah
I was told I could wear my glasses by the Camera Centre lady, and my passport has just come back and everything was fine. But then again, it was for a Canadian passport.
MuckleJoannie
I think the eyes need to be clearly visible to aid identification. As long as they are clearly visible glasses are ok ie no tinted lenses. The standards for passport photos be free from shadows; be taken with your eyes open and clearly visible (no sunglasses or tinted glasses and no hair across your eyes); be free from reflection or glare on your glasses, and the frames must not cover your eyes (where possible, we recommend that you remove your glasses);
Marooned in Maywick
Mildly amused by the bracketed part of MJ's quote...(where possible, we recommend that you remove your glasses) I can't think of any circumstances where it wouldn't be impossible to remove one's glasses...? ScotFree
Be aware that Visa and Passport applications for the USofA, Canada and many other countries require very differant sizes types of photo than for the UK. Er, I think this means for American or Canadian citizens applying for American or Canadian passports, not us wanting to use UK passports for going to USA or Canada. Ross
US Visa/Passport photos are a 2x2 inch square. The UK passport size is 35mm x 45 mm. http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/qq75/rgordon00/165043__cheadle_l.jpg This image is the correct size for a UK Passport. MikeChoi
Sorry to bring back this old thread, but I was looking into passport stuff recently too. Ended up needing to sort out some ID verification and found that doing it online made things way easier. I used https://www.idanalyzer.com (**mod edit - spam link removed **) to check and verify my passport info, which saved me some hassle. If you’re still dealing with passport photos or ID stuff, it might be worth a try. Edited September 18 by admin spam link removed
