fairislefaerie
see france is requesting that all flights to/from mexico - france be grounded, Argentina having already imposed such blockades. Travel companys in the uk have cancelled all holidays to various regions in mexico until mid may. I cant see this having much of an effect on the spread of the virus, slow it down a tad, maby a little. Ah well. Onwards and upwards !

Roachmill
Blimey! The yanks are taking this very seriously! Secretary Janet Napolitano of the Department of Homeland Security had this to say during a media briefing:We're also actively monitoring travelers at our land, sea, and air ports. We're watching them for signs of illness, and we have appropriate protocols in place to deal with those who are sick. Precautions are being taken to protect travelers and border personnel. Anyone exhibiting symptoms is being referred to an isolation room where they can be evaluated by a public health official before proceeding to their destruction. I'd keep clear of the USA until it all blows over if I were you

paulb
Looks a bit too late for the Us to impose border controls. We may need to concerning the US. How many oil company folks come from the USA and have they been up here in the last week. Have we the health checks at the airports and harbours ready. MaxFusion
http://antifmradio.com/news/flu/masks.jpgIn Japan, people will wear dust masks when they have a cold, to avoid spreading their germs to others; in Taiwan, scooter-driving citizens wear them because the traffic fumes are bad. But in Mexico, people wearing them to avoid catching the Swine Flu have decided to block germs in style!

unlinkedstudent
If you were a Line Manager and one of your members of staff telephoned in to say that they had swine fever, how would know if they were telling porkies? Well, they wouldn't have swine fever if there was no crackling on the line ... (Blame me hubby for that joke).

KOYAANISQATSI
Getting down with the sickness: "The Department of Justice has established legal federal authorities pertaining to the implementation of a quarantine and enforcement. Under approval from HHS, the Surgeon General has the authority to issue quarantines." "U.S. Customs and Coast Guard Officers assist in the enforcement of quarantine orders. Other DOJ law enforcement agencies including the U.S. Marshals, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives may also enforce quarantines. McGaw's memo on Monday also said that the federal plan to respond to pandemic influenza was "in effect." The Bush administration released the National Strategy For Pandemic Influenza in November 2005; it envisioned closer coordination among federal agencies, the stockpiling and distribution of vaccines and anti-viral drugs, and, if necessary, government-imposed "quarantines" and "limitations on gatherings." A Defense Department planning document summarizing the military's contingency plan says the Pentagon is prepared to assist in "quarantining groups of people in order to minimize the spread of disease during an influenza pandemic" and aiding in "efforts to restore and maintain order." http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/04/28/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry4975598.shtml If you can read between their lines, then you may well be feeling a little sick by now.
