One evening last summer collected my wife from airport and stopped at Spigge Hotel for a bar meal about 7.40pm. All tables in bar were occupied but bar staff took our order and said we could sit in the restaurant and showed us through to a table. There was only one other couple in there finishing their meal.

At about 8.15pm a waiter came from the kitchen to check on what we had ordered and said our order wouldn’t be long.

At about 8.45 he came back and said our order would be about 5 minutes. At 9.10 we gave up waiting and went home. Needless to say we won’t be back and I advise anybody who asks me about dining there to give it a miss.

I had a bacon roll from there at the crack of sparrows the other day, the bun was of the burger variety (spongey-form flannel type roll) but the bacon wasn't bad and they did ask me if I wanted butter on it first, and I use that term in its loosest sense?

 

In the early early morning, it was a good bacon roll. :D

 

The absolute best bacon roll in the whole known world was the one my OH bought me at the Voe Show on Saturday. It was delicious! :lol:

 

I think I am becoming an expert in bacon rolls! There are worse things.

Really, really vexed aboot da meal we've joost had at the Great Wall. Not very often I complain to waiters or send food back but it had to be done tonight.

 

3 (of a table of 6) ordered a chicken dish, each dish was completely different but each of them had the same 'pre-boiled' chicken joost heated up and stuck in the relevant sauce in them. Each dish contained watery, rubbery & tasteless chicken. We sent 2 of them back (the 3rd was on a sizzle platter which seemed to help further cook it) and asked for the chicken to be fried slightly as the whole texture of it was quite disgusting and when the waiter came back with the plates he said he hoped we thought it was ok as it was the "best they could do"!!!!!!

 

I have to say that frying or heating the chicken made it slightly more palatable but when both plates returned to the kitchen hardly touched the waiter never again enquired if we enjoyed the meal!

 

Very vexed :cry:

Had a meal at the Busta House Hotel last night (B/day celebration) which we enjoyed (Only gripe was we were too full afterwards) :D

 

Will try a bar meal next time (for comparison).

 

Have also dined at the Braewick cafe/restaurant where again the meal was of excellent quality and couldn't be faulted.

I haven't dared try the food at the new Airport cafe. The coffee was disgusting and I returned it and said so.

 

Sorry to say the same about the tea. I had to leave it and, believe me, I tried to force it down.(should've complained :oops: )

 

The person behind the counter also recently walked off while I was mid-way through telling him what I wanted, then seemed surly when he had to shout back to me from the microwave area as to what extras I wanted. I'm not usually touchy but when someone walks away like that when you're in the middle of saying something, blatantly not listening further, it gets my hackles up like nothing on earth. Poor show.

The Grand has excellent food and plenty of it in each meal. The service is excellent and the prices very good. The atmosphere is also top class.

 

Tried a few of the eateries in Lerwick and the Grand is by far the best.

Went to Oslas again when I was up, really good, portions just right though I think there may have been som staff training going on, but, very polite and smiley.

 

I still get put off from Montys, with their frozen duck,,,yuck.

 

The meals on both boats were ok, decided on Fort cafe b4 then a soup and sandwich deal on boat, ok, but take your own scran, the WiFi was spot on though and I could look at pictures of good food to keep me going.
