There just as dangerous as a petrol can and a match. And why is someone aged 10 unsupervised in the first place. What is this obsession the human race has with getting a suntan I have heard, “that it naturally develops in some individuals as a protective mechanism against the sun†Has this ever been proved. Michael Posted May 2, 2009 Report Share Posted May 2, 2009 Unfortunately society has been conditioned to think the more tanned you are, the more succesful and attractive you will be. This is because it could be seen as a sign of wealth, you can afford to go on holidays lots or whatever. In the past pale was the equivalent, because you could afford not to have to work outdoors and could sit in all day, they even had umbrellas so they wouldn't get much sun! I think it's insane to have coin operated tanning machines, completely crazy when you consider how dangerous they can be. Having them unstaffed is just beyond belief. Sure coin op tanning salons are probably not a good idea and indeed tanning salons may not be a good idea but in this case the parent is also to blame for not ensuring the safety of their child. Elements of life!! Posted May 3, 2009 Report Share Posted May 3, 2009 I think the parent has to take some of the responsibility though. I still cant believe a ten year old was on a sunbed though thats just insane. I don't agree that people need to think they are tanned all of the time though as some people go to sunbeds because of skin conditions, in some cases there is nothing better than this and I feel it a bit unfair to tar everyone with the same brush because lets face it, not that much sun usually. Plus people with skin conditions tend to be kind of embarrassed about this and the condition is usually in places that can't be bared in the sun!
