JustMe Posted May 9, 2009 Report Share Posted May 9, 2009 Well I said we "should" vote in the elections to the European Parliament but I have to qualify that with saying that before voting I have to know who is standing for election and what do they promise to do if they are elected. At the moment all I have are a few vague party political promises which do not really give me enough information to make any sort of informed decision which leaves me with a choice of voting for the party I voted for in the last Westminster election or staying at home. I also hope that there will be some campaigning and that it is deliberately being kept to a short, sharp thrust rather than the seemingly interminable blah blah blah that accompanies other elections. They are Ian Hudghton (SNP), Struan Stevenson (Con), Catherine Stihler (LAB) and Elspeth Attwool (Lib Dem). With the exception of Elspeth they are all standing again. George Lyon is the Lib Dem candidate (used to be a MSP for Argyle).I have already heard Struan Stevenson campaigning in Shetland and Ian Hudghton is here next week along with another SNP candidate.The campaigning is only starting because the closing date for nominations was only last week. JustMe Posted May 18, 2009 Report Share Posted May 18, 2009 So far the Labour Party has asked for my vote via a leaflet.....delivered twice on different days. I am unhappy with their leaflet which seems to show a ballot paper with just Labour on it as I understand several parties are after my vote. Yet to receive the BNP leaflet which I will read with interest. What I will not do this time is claim that I will vote for the party that does most to get my vote. As yet there has been no sign of any canvassing by any party in Shetland. why should we vote for them if they cant be bothered to ask for our vote? If it any consolation, they are not canvassing in East London yet either ... and probably won't! Oops, steady on woman, the Conservatives have posted their blurb ADDRESSED to my husband. Where's mine then? Swears profusely - women died so I could have the vote and yet hubby is the only one so far to get any election propaganda. Do they not realise I can read better than him?
