Overheard some loudmothed yahoo who claimed to "Do the Councils books" talking to some guy on the Hrossey on wed night say that the council had indeed given clark the £250,000 payoff , Councillors you have lost all respect of the shetland public , you are a total disgrace and should retire forthwith as you are clearly mentally unbalanced and should not hold a post that requires the use of more than one brain cell. Clearly the use of more than the one brain cell would leave all you councillors who agreed to thisl flatlined..........!!!! And how dare they state that this was to be an "undisclosed sum" ITS OUR FRIGGIN MONEY !!!!

This was followed by a complaint to the Standards Commission about councillor Wills’ behaviour following the investigation, when he questioned the way it was handled. The complaint was signed by Mr Clark, council convener Sandy Cluness, vice convener Josie Simpson, depute chief executive Hazel Sutherland and head of legal Jan Riise.

 

The resignations of all of the above, would be a very good place to start to bring the SIC into a new era of openess and a complete reset.

 

 

 

However on Friday local government umbrella group COSLA leaped to the convener’s defence, saying that local people should stop persecuting him.

 

COSLA president Pat Watters said: "I can understand that the people of Shetland are upset, but councillor Cluness and the council took a decision that they felt was right for Shetland and the people of Shetland and the victimisation of councillor Cluness is not merited.â€

 

I would suggest that Pat Watters takes a little time to educate himself on the activities of Convener Cluness, to understand where such a level of dissatisfaction and distrust comes from.

 

As far as victimisation - not another claim of this? Everyone in the entire fiasco is now claiming victimisation. The correct term is incompetence, and there is certainly plenty of that flowing around the SIC today.

 

 

“In the absence of knowing all the facts I would urge the people of Shetland to stop the wilful persecution of a man who has served the island to the best of his ability and a councillor who has never knowingly taken a decision that was not in the best interests of the islands he loves so much."

 

There is only one solution to this abhorrent disaster that has been conjured up by all parties involved - ensure that EVERYONE is in full command of the FACTS. It will be easy and straightforward once we have all seen the facts and understand the options and road to the decisions made by the Council.

 

And finally to the fine leader of COSLA. Before you start deriding the fine electorate of Shetland and the position that many have taken on the activities and decisions of the Convener, remember that the elected councillors of the SIC themselves selected Councillor Cluness as their leader - NOT the electorate.

 

As you are probably far too busy to read all the instances and occurrences that might have brought people to this decision, and I am far too busy to take the time to educate you, I'll leave you with just one example.

Part of the reason (I suppose), for the indecent haste in finalising things between the SIC and DC was to avoid yet another scandal.

Well, how would it look if our CE was hauled up before the 'Beak' on an alleged criminal charge and possibly be found guilty?

pity they could not wait for a day or two. it would have saved a lot. if being reported to the fiscal is not bringing them into disrepute. what is. there must be enough evidence to warrant a report. so Mr Clark fibbed when he said he did not offer the doctor a view of his toe cap.

i think his dad may need to have a word with his son trying to fight in the street and getting up to rude things with strange women. he needs putting straight or he may grow up to be a CE for Shetland.

*If* the ex-CE does end up in court, and *if* he is found guilty, its going to cause a greater scandal that they've thrown £1/2 Million at him needlessly, than it would have caused having an incumbent CE found guilty of threatening one of his employers with violence.

 

As I said above, it was pure madness to pay him off with unresolved investigations still open against him. Now it might well just come back and bite them all in the ass, hopefully.

 

That said, I'll be surprised if it does get to court, if the "new evidence" is nothing more than we've been told about, and if it does, even more surprised in there's a conviction.

 

However, its nice to have news breaking on the same day as Clark Snr's rather sickening letter was published, that provides counterbalance and may make Clark Snr. reconsider the wisdom of saying quite so much so soon. Also the fact that it may wipe some of the smile off Clark Jnr's face while he waits to hear if the Fiscal is going to proceed with the case, and likewise cause Councillors to squirm en masse, is worthwhile in itself.

I've just had a terrible thought. Is DC on bail now then? Have the old bill taken his passport off him? Perish the thought, he may have planned a holiday with the dosh and be planning to leave Shetland promptly. Any chance the police could take all his photo ID off him too? At least that way he'd have to spend some of the dosh in Shetland and if it did proceed to Court, he can't disappear.

^^ Unlikely he's on bail I would think. Most likely he's had a visitation from plod, been verbally advised that the report has been submitted, and to expect a letter from the Fiscal's office in due course, advising him of the Fiscal's decision for the matter. ie. A court date, or a formal notification that the matter isn't going to proceed any further.
