Fjool
The difference is that MuckleJoannie's comments are objective and include some additional information. The other comments in question are little more than baseless assumptions. However, we're not really here to discuss the legitimacy of particular user comments, so let's talk about the new Chief Exec instead
ArabiaTerra
It's not so much about whether he is any good or not, just as long as he's better than the last incumbent. (Which IMHO would not be difficult. [As long as he knows what his brother does.])
trout
Trying to see things from opposing camps is good. Senselessly putting the boot into something is not. Absoutely. As a general rule for everything and everybody. Wide sweeping generalised moaning is really not condusive to any sort of educated discussion. It is tiresome to read and basically stifles reasoned debate. Yes, it's "an opinion", but look outside that small stifling box - give backups and links to "claims" - it helps to educate and forward online communities. Merely writing unsubstantiated rumour and boarish personal opinion makes for nothing other than electronic fishwives! That's not healthy for anyone concerned! tarotangel
I can't really say anything either way just now as he's not even started the job. It's not like an election where we get to hear every single thought from the prospective candidates, ad infinitum and get a good idea of what they are going to do. I think I just wait until he's been in the job a few months and see what transpires.
Ghostrider
Just be thankful there's a new broom in the Town Hall and give the guy a chance, under the exiting incumbent we've had a bridge too far to Bressay, a share in a white elephant boat, numerous fish company, floating dock etc fiascos, all of which have swallowed rather scarey sums of our money. Its long past time the mould was broken, and someone with different talents outlook and perspective started steering the ship.
paulb
I don't know paulb and have never met him but, by his reasoning, it's entirely OK for me to insinuate on a public forum that he's a workshy layabout who's out to line his pockets at our expense and, and, probably nips kittens ears when their owners aren't looking. Self employed layabout. will nip over to the cats protection when i get a chance. He said he had Run multi million contracts for westminster council. His firm is very small. No council will give big contracts to a small firm. They have not posted accounts for the last two years these are facts not me putting the boot in. peeriebryan
Da Auld Een helping out the Mods! Whit next The consensus of opinion from those I've spoken to who were privy to the selection process is that Mr Clark was a very strong candidate indeed, and the right person for the job. By all means be sceptical but let's avoid the bellyaching and give the guy a chance Paulb, I'd be interested to read your reply to the questions posed (and re-posed) by Njugle earlier in the thread - http://www.shetlink.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=113937#113937

paulb
1.Could you explain, and back up, what you mean in saying "messed up all the oil related spending" Spending on the infastructor related to the housing and rec centres for the oil workers. There is a five star sheep shed at firth. The clean up of the camps should have been paid for by the polluter. the oil companies. 2.Could you explain what "sub-standard buildings" you are referring to and what money is owed to whom for/on them. If you have ever lived in either the council housing in either brae, mossbank and firth you would know that they are poorly built. the last quote was that there was still a debt of some 40-50 million owing on them. The building quality was poor and the infastructor is still lacking as in the sewage system. 3.What clear up of Sullom Voe it is that you feel is necessary? If you mean returning the site to an agreed state in perhaps 30-50years time when operations there cease, this was a part of the original agreement that allowed the site to be developed, as I understand it. If this is what you are referring to I fail to see any relevance to the topic whatsoever. The terminal was built over 30 years ago and has a similar life expectancy and none of the current administration were either involved in it's inception, nor will be in it's final administration, or it's highly unlikely anyway. yes this was getting off topic sorry but are they saving funds to do it. It would be good to know that the site will be cleaned up by the oil firms i would like to see this in writing something binding that nether side can get out of. 4. And finally "when do we let the oil companies walk away from their deals", once again, could you elaborate on which deals and on what grounds you see the need to discuss them 'walking away' from the deals? there has been no income from the oil to us since 2000? because we were conned into think they were going to shut sullom voe. They should have stuck the rate up. They allowed them to avoid the clean up of the camps and if the council are not careful they will try to get free tugs etc. 5. And could it all be relevant to the selection of the new Chief Exec please? yep totally of topic. I' m bad its the cat clipping its keeping me so busy. As a council tax payer in Shetland i do have the right to question his skills. He may well be the best person for the job and be the best administrator that the council has ever had. Its cost a daft amount of money to appoint him. so i hope he is.

But i still have my doubts.have answered them. and tried to explain to Njugle in a pm. I'm not sure that the full council was perhaps the best group to appoint him Lots of different views. Can you imagine the full council trying to interview you. How did it work was it on a vote system or what.
