Marooned in Maywick
Hi Admin et al. Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but I have searched (honest )...does there exist the facility to place a user onto an 'ignore' list so that their posts aren't displayed? Baron Farkoff
Why would there be such a thing?

Baron Farkoff
Surely anyone can post what they like within the t+c's:It's a public forum after all. If you dont want to read someones' post, then don't read it. That'd be the best way,I reckon.
Guest Anonymous
All joking aside, I can see what Marooned means. There are certain posters who annoy me, and maybe it would be better if I didn't read their posts. This is a purely personal thing, in as much as certain posters can wind some people up simply with their attitude to a certain topic. Blanking such posts would be fine, but perhaps in reality such an action would make it impossible to give meaningful comment on the topic as a whole. Marooned in Maywick
Surely anyone can post what they like within the t+c's:It's a public forum after all. Of course - I'm not suggesting any kind of censorship, other than self-censorship in adhering to the T&Cs If you dont want to read someones' post, then don't read it. That'd be the best way,I reckon. Easier said than done when you have particularly dogmatic posters who have an opinion on everything...and they are always RIGHT. Frankly, I'd rather have the facility to permanently ignore the drivel rather than have to put in the effort of scrolling through yet another tiresome post. As I'm sure others may feel about mine. Baron Farkoff
Of course, scrolling down a computer screen is such hard work... Everyone is entitled to post here unless they have broken the rules. That is the point of a forum: so folk can air their views, dogmatic or not.I can't believe you are actually serious about this! Marooned in Maywick
Of course, scrolling down a computer screen is such hard work... Aye, I'm sure there are some people with medical conditions who might find such a task difficult. Everyone is entitled to post here unless they have broken the rules. And I haven't suggested otherwise - why do you keep repeating that as if I have done so? That is the point of a forum: so folk can air their views, dogmatic or not. And it is my choice to read them or not - I simply asked if there was a facility whereby the software would do part of the work for me. I can't believe you are actually serious about this! I can't believe that you can't believe it.
Baron Farkoff
OK,that's cleared that up. All is chilled. Night night.
Njugle
:)We don't have it here MiM. It would perhaps be of more use on a less socially responsible forum. We hope and try to rely on our users to help keep Shetlink to the "virtual living room" style, with associated decorum, that we intend it to be. Ignoring people is not really a part of that. I could write lots of meaningful crud here about the concepts of Shetlink, but just ponder the living room idea for a bit. That'll do it.

Marooned in Maywick
Thanks for the reply, Njugle. I accept the living room analogy, though I usually have the choice as to whom is allowed into my living room. I had more in mind the pub analogy where if there was a particularly tiresome loudmouth one could nip through to the lounge bar where there were the same posters minus the one or two you'd rather avoid. But if it doesn't exist, I've not got the slightest problem with that - I merely sought an answer to the question.

Fjool
I accept the living room analogy, though I usually have the choice as to whom is allowed into my living room.I think this is the mistake that most people make... it's not your living room, it's Shetlink's living room
