tarotangel
Well I was happy that we made it into Europe then not too long after came the offical statement that Messrs Calderwood, Nichol & Clark were off, "by mutual consent" of course. I know I'm not Calderwoods biggest fan but all in all I think he did a good job certainly compared to managers that he had recently suceeeded. So who now for us? Hot contenders seem to be Eric Black and Mark McGhee. Also the rumour mill is that the ex management team maybe off to Hearts and will be in place by end of the week. Baxter
Credit where its due, Calderwood did a descent job at aberdeen and stabilised and consolidated the clubs position. However, i do feel that some new blood and fresh changes are much needed at Pittodrie! Dont know if the Jimmy's would meet hearts' requirements?? Heard a rumour that the new manager will be unveiled tomorrow? Indicates that the decision to replace the Jimmy's was taken a good while ago!! My top candidates: Eric Black, Darren ferguson, Mark McGhee, Aidy Bothroyd- I would be delighted witha any of these.
Marshall
Its good to see so much intrest in the Aberdeen job but the sooner we get McGhee in the better. We will have to wait and see what happens with Celtic first but it looks like they are looking else where. Looks like Lee Mair has gone to St Mirren I was not his biggest fan but he was a decent versitile squad player. No dis respect to St Mirren but Aberdeen are losing out to them in the contract market. Whoever gets the Aberdeen post needs some money and backing from the board to replace the players going i.e Smith, Mair and Severin.Thats before he shapes his own team. The first thing he will have to try and do is hold on to Severin he has been so consistant for us over the years. JohanofNess
Surprising thing is that a lot of the Aberdeen fans I speak to aren't happy he's gone, Stewart Milne and Willie Miller need to be careful who they choose in a replacement. Calderwood did reasonably well with the resources he was given they're expecting a bit much for a manager to push on from where Jimmy was if they're giving him less of a squad and likely less money to spend. Marshall
Well what can i say about the Dons on thursday night? I was quietly confident.A new era with what i thought was the perfect manager for us in place. A man that was going to bring the club forward i was already looking to the group stages and hoped to get down to some of the games then bang one poor performance and we are as good as out of Europe.Don't get me wrong they looked a good side although they were the unknown team 4th in there league last term i thought we could get a result even though they are well into there league and we were still pre-season. I have said it before we are weak at the back Considine and Diamond (although not playing) make to many mistakes. Severin is gone and he held the defence together last year as Anderson did before him. We are not to bad up front and mid-field but at the back we are poor. Its a pitty we did't play away first and played a more defensive game rather than first game in charge come out all guns blazing trying to impress the supporters with wonderful attacking football that the players are not used to or can't do.Derek Young at full back?Listening to the first half Young was getting torn apart by his man.McGhee tried to play to attacking pushing Mulgrew and Foster up the park rather than have them in there normal full back role.We need a good solid centre half and we needed it before last Thursday.I thought we had it in Reda Johnson but we tried to get him on the cheap when there was a loan deal chance then got out bid.We must have had all our eggs in one basket with Johnson and the two loan deals with Plymouth because now they have fallen through there no more signing talk. Why did we sign a keeper the back up only has a pulled hamstring. He said we would have 4 signings before the season starts now we have a 3rd keeper as one of them when it is out field players we are looking for.As for working with no money everyone out side the old firm and Hearts are in the same boat. How many signings have Dundee Utd made this close season without money.I think he hoped to get to the group stage with the players he had and then use the money from that to get better players in but its back fired. A poor weak of football for the Scottish teams i see some of the managers are now concerned about our lack of football before Europe start. Things can only get better for us and i hope McGhee has learned from this i still think he is the man to move things forward but time will tell. JAStewart
I would take the piss out of Aberdeen, but we've lost like, all our keepers and strikers it seems so I will reserve my windings up.
