    • Deliberately exterminate 3.5 billion people in the most humane way science can devise.

    • Do everything we can to avert this catastrophy and allow numbers to fall naturally in line with declining birth rates due to the higher standard of living enjoyed in the West.

The surreal thing is, this is real, its too depressing for most to even think about and most blank it out, its going to happen within the next 10-20 years. In the end, we will live sustainably with this planet, by definition there is no other way, that means a cut in population to a level that can be sustained, After the population maxis out when we hit the food/energy/water celing in the next few years, and starvation sets in, the population will decline at various rates over the next 100 years until we reach a long term balance. What ever way this cake is sliced, its not going to be pretty.

think you're spot on here myself , the wise will be wary n prepared , the less able to tink will struggle, natures way, when theres a "plague" of anything the bubble bursts n perhaps humans are reaching plague proportions

no cockroach

You're a funny guy.

idiots like you

Why thank you.

But lets be honest I've read most of your posts and your opinions are those of a blinkered child, unfortunately for you, you are all grown up now and unlikely to ever learn any sense.

Really.

And to correct your assumption this user name was used by my wife and unsupprisingly she quite often agrees with me

Absolutely no comment there. That would be childish.

morons like you

So this is being all grown up is it? Good luck!

An interesting link that addresses the topic subject :

http://overpopulationisamyth.com/overpopulation-the-making-of-a-myth

"...According to the U.N. Population Database, using the historically accurate low variant projection, the Earth's population will only add another billion people or so over the next thirty years, peaking around 8.02 billion people in the year 2040, and then it will begin to decline."

Ally, do you realise that site you linked to is a religious organisation dedicated to the ending of abortion, contraception and family planning?

Our Mission

Debunk the myth of overpopulation, which cheapens human life and paves the way for abusive population control programs

Expose the relentless promotion of abortion, abortifacient contraception, and chemical and surgical sterilization in misleadingly labeled “population stabilization,†“family planning,†and “reproductive health†programs.

Defund these programs by exposing the coercion, deception, and racism inherent in them.

Emphasize that people are the most valuable resource on the planet, the one resource we cannot do without.

Promote pro-natal and pro-family attitudes, laws, and policies worldwide.

Encourage programs to help the poor become agents of their own development.

(My emphasis)

It is basically a propaganda site and lobby group for the US evangelical right wing christofacists. Not the kind of people you want to be taking seriously on any subject, least of all population control. They don't give a damn about overpopulation, all they are interested in is more "babies for jesus"

From one of their press releases:

The only way to prevent illegitimate pregnancy and STDs is through chastity and monogamy. That's why we have had an enormous explosion of illegitimate pregnancies and STDs since the 1960s. Only virtuous behavior, not modern technology, can prevent these ills

I have to say the banter on this forum really seems to be of exceptional quality these days.

I wonder, does the impassioned input from rona betray a fervent desire to change the world for the better? Is rona, in fact, secretly struggling to decide whether he/she is a hippy or a glorious leader of nations, all of whom need a vital lesson in common sense from someone with such a deep and powerful grasp of the enormous and complex issues we are talking about here?

Or is rona merely trying to fashion a justification to be able to rid the world of those who disagree with his/her views, thereby exposing himself as a fascist?

These really are issues that would make someone froth within oneself.

Bless you, I think maybe you really do care.

I wouldn't vote for you, though.

xx

Of course I knew that. I am an active proponent of the far-right Christian agenda. My link was cherry-picked from my own personal hoard of creationist rhetoric and was in no way the results of a hasty google search, lazily aimed at backing up and interesting point I dimly remember hearing a bloke make a few years ago in a pub

:D :D :D

It was the phrases "Pro-Life" and "Pro-Family" which set off my bollox alarm, so I did a little digging.

I guess I've been spending too much time at Pharyngula.

whats wrong with pro life and family. are you anti life and family

It's the fact that these are catch phrases of the right wing religious fundamentalists in the US. They are opposed to abortion, birth control, homosexuality, women's rights, family planning and science in general (especially where it contradicts their Wholly Babble).

They are a bunch of despicable racists and homophobes who want to turn the US into a christian theocracy. Basically the christian equivalent of the taliban.

It was their influence which stopped the handing out of condoms to fight AIDS in Africa and forced the teaching of "abstinence" during the Bush regime, a policy which led directly to a surge in rates of infection.

I cannot emphasise enough the strength of my disgust and loathing of these creatures. (Or if I did, I would break the Shetlink swear filter) :x

bollox alarm

That conjures up some rather unsavoury images. I need a brain wash for 1 please

Ha! An unfortunate choice of phrasing on my part. Sorry 'bout that. It was necessary because my first choice of word, sprootle, is covered by the swear filter.

Apart from those with a cross humping agenda; on the, Thomas Malthus(1766-1834) piece, there was however an interesting link included...

Which in turn leads on to...

http://www.libertyfund.org/

Among the T Malthus ramblings, there's a Shetland mention...

In the account of Bressay Burra and Quarff in Shetland, it is observed that the farms are very small, and few have a plough. The object of the proprietors is to have as many fishermen on their lands as possible—a great obstacle to improvements in agriculture. They fish for their masters, who either give them a fee totally inadequate, or take their fish at a low rate. The writer remarks, that "in most countries the increase of population is reckoned an advantage, and justly. It is however the reverse in the present state of Shetland. The farms are split. The young men are encouraged to marry without having any stock. The consequence is poverty and distress. It is believed that there is at present in these islands double the number of people that they can properly maintain."

  • 2 weeks later...
no cockroach artificially sustaining a population for a while so it expands to a point that it can no longer be sustained by any means and then having billions die from starvation, disease and war, is cruel and that is not only my opinion but the opinion of most educated Africans that I know.

sending money and or food to Africa that is then sold for guns and hard cash with only enough getting through to keep things teetering along as they are so that saint bob and his damn fool cronies can make a film showing the suffering to tweek at the heart strings of idiots like you.

NOW THAT IS CRUEL.
