unlinkedstudent
Well, I see that there is no difference in the weather whatsoever up here - it used to always rain in London on my birthday and low and behold, yep, it rained here yesterday too! Today was the first morning I had frost on my windscreen too!
JordanKZ
Was a weird walk to work this morning. One of those days when, the air temp is very cold but there was no wind. So, it ended up quite nice. More of those mornings please!

PJ of Hildisvik
Just been mentioned on BBC radio Shetland that the coldest temps in Shetland during this cold spell was minus five at Lerwick yesterday. Not everybody lives in the Glass bubble that covers Lerwick Temperatures over many areas have been down to minus 9/10/11/12 centigrade recently.Half an hour ago it minus 6 in the Tingwall valley and minus 7 at Punds water near the Olaberry junction and minus 6 in my garden. Met office forecasting for Shetland has become a complete joke and totally unreliable. Time to get the seaweed out
hoosn
ye, metoffice kinda rough rule o thumb, windguru no bad for wind. In 43 year am never noticed the snowy hills takin on a violet colour at sunset, is dis something to do wi the keen freezing or whit? They will likely be a keener freezing in ower away from da sea n met office at sandy loch is no da "be all n end all". Asweel to to take it aa wi a pinch a saat (but no da cooncils roddy saat )

GT
Temperature readings can only be compared directly with one an other if they have been made using the same standard method of exposure e.g. Meteorological stations measure the temperature of the air using accurately tested thermometers placed in a Stevenson Screen between 1.25 and 2m above the ground. Taking temperature readings that do not conform to this standard exposure will often give quite different results. Anyhow temperatures will vary quite a lot across Shetland due to topography, height above sea level etc.

This was the day when the "high" in aberdeen city centre was -6'C
