Lola Boomboom
Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley.Leonard Cohen takes some beating but one man and a guitar gives this song the edge on the original. Maybe I make no sense but only Jeff Buckley could create such complexity with the simplicity of it.

Ghostrider
^^ The playing is equal to if not better than Blondie, but I prefer female vocals. Debbie Harry's unique vocal style added a certain something that's difficult to replicate.... That said, I was a dyed in the wool Blondie nut back in the day when they were going strong, so I might just be a tad biased.
Snaz
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0lsBdPjUME&feature=related Willis - Word Up How a good cover should be, nothing like the original. Maybe not as good as Cameo's but still definitely still worth a listen.
Pooks
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer by George Thorogood. Better than John Lee Hookers version IMO.
sassermaet
Just watched '...Sings the Beatles' on BBC4 just now. Some stupendous covers on there, from the sublime (Shirley Bassey doing 'Something') to the tongue in cheek (Petula Clark's 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'). iPlayer it if you can
colonel
As a Dylan fan, I have to agree with the earlier post, that Hendrix easily surpassed the original with All along the Watchtower. However, the ultimate Dylan cover for me is Lou Reed`s version of "Foot of Pride" ... immense, Reed spits out the vocals as though they were his own. (even though he is reading them from an autocue!!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuoL1oKyjk0

sassermaet
^^^ I forgot about Travis' version Have the guitar chords for it somewhere in a book. Eva Cassidy did some lovely covers in her time; notables being 'Over the Rainbow', 'Fields of Gold' (both make me greet when I hear them!) and 'Songbird'. EM
Eva Cassidy did some lovely covers in her time.I was once at a doo in her parent's house. Quite a strange experience. She'd recently died so it was a sort of cross between a memorial service and a coffee morning. Poignant, yet somehow lightsome.
sassermaet
My friend's girlfriend did an acoustic set on our student union radio station - she covered 'I Remember You' by Skid Row, which I think beats the original. If you go to our radio station homepage and scroll down, you should find it: http://www.strathclydefusion.com
