paulb
No insulation for Shetland Shetland is being left out of a £15 million Scottish government initiative offering free energy audits, energy efficiency advice and discounted loft and cavity insulations. Up to 96,000 homes in 10 local authority areas, including 388 homes in Orkney, are being offered the help to make their homes more energy efficient. The scheme, to be administered by the Energy Savings Trust, is expected to create around 900 jobs for energy advisers and insulation installers. The World Wildlife Fund welcomed the scheme, but said the government must move “more quickly†to secure £15 million from the private sector and roll it out right across the country. are we not part of Scotland. if they class us as seperate then maybe we should be. manxman
Well, Wikipedia seems to think Shetland is no longer part of Scotland too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Shetland_map.png

brokenlink
this story is not strictly correct. Shetland households are still eligible for all the assistance with regard to insulation measures and energy efficiency advice. They just won't be part of this new his scheme like the vast majority of homes in scotland won't be. A freephone call to est, sorry don't know the number, will put you in touch will local advice centre and outline what support you can receive. Ghostrider
We're too tough to need to be insulated, we're so used to the horizontal sleet and -20 wind chill it has no more effect on us than on a Polar Bear.
khitajrah
We're looking forward to that -20 wind chill not coming up through the floorboards this winter thanks to the purchase of a lovely new carpet and nice and thick underlay (to be delivered in a few days!)! Is there anything else we should stick on the floor to stop the 'breeze' coming through?
shetlandpeat
We used to put hardboard down, or you can get thick cardboard on a roll to do the same...or even newspapers...
Guest metallica man
Also make sure that theres no drafts around skirtings wheres theres a gap between the floorboards & the kit/blockwork for expansion in the floor!! This can be solved with some expanding foam!!
jaydee67
Thin ply down first is what we did.
