This board has never given much heed to a/s/l (age/sex/location for you luddites).

Shetland is a small community in general terms and anonymity of members therefore was never questioned - so long as users sign up to one pseudonym only!

There are many users however, having taken the plunge and 'come out the Shetlink closet'. Good thing for sure - more the merrier! ;)

When it comes to a forum like this:

Age is irrelevant, All age groups have just as much sense, or sharn, to contribute.

Sex. Well that's a different matter, and a much bigger question, but always the answer is the same regardless of age.... YES PLEASE

Location? Well, you can be any age anywhere, but there are laws regarding sex anywhere... If you get caught..

Why do dogs have black lips :?:

I was going to say. " Same reason as councillors". But then I remembered that I'm colour blind and sometimes can't tell the difference between black and dark brown.

I think my comment about the gender here has been blown slightly out of proportion.

I never wanted to know a/s/l or anything as similar.

I do like to know whether I'm talking to a guy or a girl just in order to know whether to use he or she but it is not anywhere near essential.

My complaint was more rethorical than actual and could have been left standig like that.

I feel slightly pushed into the wrong corner.

^ Don't worry about it. Many forums have M/F options in their profiles so it wasn't an unreasonable question. Shetlink never has, and I think many people enjoy the element of further anonymity about other people's posts. I would have to admit I have also been surprised at times when someone I have presumed to be male turns out female or vice versa.

Regarding dogs lips they are not all black, some breeds have pink, but granted they are far less common. Doesn't really answer the question though.

Picture not enough PH? Or joking?

"joking" "only about the plumbing"

Is my pic that horrible?

"The only reason my photo is not here is that I don’t want to give all you good kind people Nightmares."

Sorry Sha. You can dry the tears. I have not met you, so I have no reason, to think you are not a beautiful person in anyway

" No offence was meant "

It’s just at my old age and, with bad eyesight. I can't see the photo very well. O! as Njugle. pointed out. I do have a weird sense of humour sometimes.

For photos anything less than 7x^ size, and I need a Transmission Electron Aberration-corrected Microscope to see it at its best.

Just the same with yours Njugle. I know your face, but still not where we have met outside the Shetlink

Community? But know it I do.

Thing is why should one's sex/gender matter on a forum?

Just fill in your next Tax (forum) and see how much it matters to some twits.

Why not?

"Personally I appreciate knowing to whom I'm talking, at least irrevlevant details such as sex, approx. age, could avoid some confusion.

But why should it matter?"

Why label someone before you learn anything about them?

Working with teenagers I've met some who've had more life experience than many I know more than twice their age.

When it come to sex, social stereo types no longer govern people's every day lives, gender is something you can adopt to suit the individual not what it says on the birth certificate.

I personally hate being stuck in to tick box categories. People make assumptions.

But I'm going to stop my rant as my thumbs are getting sore from texting on a phone.

I don’t disagree with you on that Sha.

When my little 9 year old nephew. Says something on any topic of discussion in the house. I make it a point to listening to him, as I would if he was 90 years old. Just because he is 9, dose not mean his input is any less relevant than anyone else view point. He might not think the same about the subject in five years time. Just as something, I think just now, could be changed at a later date.

And I apply that philosophy to all . Whether you are Male or Female. Old or Young.

So what am I? I am Male 47 years old, born in Shetland, lived here all my life. Found a job the day after leaving School, and worked until a misshape at work, forced ill health retirement some years back I treat all, the same way they treat me. I say please and thank you, I will hold open a door if I’m the first one there. just because I was at the door first. Good manners cost nothing. I may not agree with what all say or post here. But some of my ancestors, have died fighting for the right, of free speech and freedom in this country. Just as everyone else here has.

I love a good debate on any subject, and you learn something new everyday and Sha long may it continue.

I see you joined on 02 Oct 2009. So forgive me for my manners. Hello from me and welcome to Shetlink, and don’t ever stop joining in please

Hi Sha,

Firstly I'm male, 44 and not locally raised although I've lived in Shetland a while now. I use the Spam icon ironically and have a thing about the Monty Python song.

Anyway, my question:

Lay down your guns

All you daughters of Zion

All you Abraham sons

What do you mean?

Anyway, my question:

Lay down your guns

All you daughters of Zion

All you Abraham sons

What do you mean?

Ghostrider is right but I will ellaborate a little.

the U2 sond is "Love and Peace or else"

Here is ther entire song:

Lay down

Lay down

Lay your sweet lovely on the ground

Lay your love on the track

We're gonna break the monster's back

Yes we are...

Lay down your treasure

Lay it down now brother

You don't have time

For a jealous lover

As you enter this life

I pray you depart

With a wrinkled face

And a brand new heart

I don't know if I can take it

I'm not easy on my knees

Here's my heart you can break it

I need some release, release, release

We need

Love and peace

Love and peace

Lay down

Lay down your guns

All your daughters of Zion

All your Abraham sons

I don't know if I can make it

I'm not easy on my knees

Here's my heart and you can break it

I need some release, release, release

We need

Love and peace

Love and peace

Baby don't fight

We can talk this thing through

It's not a big problem

It's just me and you

You can call or I'll phone

The TV is still on

But the sound is turned down

And the troops on the ground

Are about to dig in

And I wonder where is the love?

Where is the love?

Where is the love?

Where is the love?

Love and peace

I am not yet sure, for myself, as to the context of the lyrics in the song.

But to me they mean what Ghostrider said, that we need Peace.

Zion has always been connected to the Jews and Abraham is as it says "He is widely regarded as the patriarch of Jews, Christians, and Muslims.

In short: no more wars based on Religion.
