I can't stand him or his music. Many, perhaps most of the great changes and influences in modern music have come from drug influences, but this twatt is trying to use that ethos in reverse. "I take sooo much drugs i must be cool, oh worship me and my baby-face, all you devotees of idiot culture", self-destruct and be venerated! Even his band name is a contrived attempt at manipulation. I could rant at huge length, But in summary:eg., Jimi Hendrix- musical genius/drug fiend/mortalPete Doherty- rectum
Tomblands
"I take sooo much drugs i must be cool, oh worship me and my baby-face, all you devotees of idiot culture" You realise what you have just said is largely made up by the media? Not once has Pete Doherty glorified the use of drugs. He is a fantastic musician and I generally find that most of the people who give responses as seen in this thread haven't bothered their arses to even listen to his music. On a side note, I love the fact that the press blamed him for Kate Moss taking cocaine. Then 3 months later we are treated to an "EXCLUSIVE" about Kate Moss hoovering coke up her nose in Nelson Mandela's house a good 3 years before she met him. Njugle
It was learning of him having his own column in one of the lad mags a while back that put my hackles up about him. Maybe he was manipulated into writing for it? So is he out of his own control completely? Or is he milking a reputation?I'm not sure.
peeriebryan
I met Mr Doherty when he was the opening act for a band I was playing in last year. It was at the “Burns an aa that†festival†in Ayr and he was reading some Burns poetry before “Strange Feelings†played ( http://www.myspace.com/strangefeelings - formed by the ex-keyboard player from Mull Historical Society) He arrived in a car with blacked out windows, got out and fought his way through a herd of paparazzi (I don’t know why he didn’t stay in the car, which went through the security gates and parked at the back door. A photo opportunity perhaps?) When he got back stage, we were warned not to talk to him and that we were to stay in our dressing rooms until he left. This type of attitude boils my p***. If we’re on the same bill, we have to share the same backstage facilities. I don’t care how famous they (think) they are. Granted, this was probably not his decision. However, I did bump in to him and we had a yarn for a couple of minutes just before he went on. He seemed sober, coherent, well spoken and very polite. During his short walk to the stage, he seemed to become drunk and started to stumble and slouch (think of Peter Kay’s ‘Walking to the dance floor dance’ in reverse). By the time he got to the microphone, he was slurring words and being belligerent. But he is a performer, and that type of behaviour is what people expect from him. Straight after he came of stage, he was off in his car, having made an apparently full recovery from his momentary state of intoxication. I had a few drinks with his Scottish tour manager (having just finished a tour with Babyshambles) after the show. He reckoned that Doherty was “a posh wee fanny†who couldn’t hold his drink and rarely took drugs. It was the tour manager’s opinion that Doherty perpetuates the myth that he has a drug habit to get his face in the papers. As far as his music goes, I quite liked the Libertines, but I think Babyshamles are very poor indeed. I’ve never been to a gig, but from what I’ve seen of them on TV and heard on the radio, they seem to be all attitude with nothing to back it up. One of the most over rated and over hyped bands of the past few years. But each to his own....

The guy is a very talented musician and both Libertines albums are outstanding and the song Don`t Look Back into the Sun is a classic. The guy has problems and no one can defend what he does and it does seem that he gets a fair bit of leneancy from the court!!Hope he sorts himself out and reforms the Libertines but I think theres more chance of Gary Glitter getting his career back on track when he returns to Britain than that happening! Mhari P
I think the man is an idiot - I have no time for him at all. I unfortunatley had to meet him at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen a couple of years ago (where I was working at the time). Babyshambles were refused gig after gig there by our musical director but they managed to get a booking by approaching our bar and catering manager - who looked in the diary and saw that we were free. He had never heard of the Babyshambles and was totally sucked in by them. Grrrrr - said the rest of us. However, we let the gig go on. There were 3 support bands and the Babyshambles. As the support bands played, we left Pete and the rest of the band in their dressing room (what a stink, I can tell you!). A friend from London joined them. Loads of punters were asking us "Is Pete actually here?" to which we replied, yes, of course. Unfotunately, by the time Pete was due on stage, Pete was no longer "actually here" (i.e. on the planet). His friend from London had given him some "special" sleeping pills to which he swallowed more than a few lets say. Twat. His band mate comes up to us and says, sorry we're going to have to pull the gig - can you go up and make an announcement on stage. Get to F*ck was our response - you do it pal! Remember, by this time, 550 Babyshambles/Pete fans had stood through 3 support bands and were becoming a bit impatient. Anyhoo, the band member goes on stage and says "Really sorry guys, but we're not going to be able to play. Pete's just fallen down the stairs and twisted his ankle" (more like was completely unconscious in the dressing room!). As soon as the announcement was made, the lovely audience started hurling pints of beer at the PA, verbally abusing the staff and accusing us of lying to them all the time and that Pete was never in the building in the first place etc etc. What a carry on. Thankfully, someone set off the fire alarm and we had to evacuate the building (not easy in those circumstances) and then a riot continued on West-North Street. The police arrived with all their riot gear on and there were police dogs everywhere. They made loads of arrests that night and we had a huge mess to tidy up inside. So that was a fun night at work - and all down to the lovely, talented, intelligent Pete Doherty! Funnily enough we didn't reschedule the gig but we did give full refunds. After all, the headline act never played.

Jonners
Total idiot! He also gets far too much media exposure. He's not famous enough to merit a place on the news. Fair enough if it was Cliff Richard jacking up on heroin, but I'm not interested in this pleb. I think in a way the media is desperate to have another Kurt Cobain character on their hands. He's only famous by associatian with Kate Moss.

Aye, it is glorified by the media but sorry, he's a complete waste of space. What has he really done? He's hardly set the world on fire has he? Everyone knows fame has a price but that can hardly be levied at him. Has the pressure of one really good album driven him to this? I doubt it. There is no doubt he thinks himself as some rock n roll misfit but to be honest, he's just a complete moron. Trying to be something he's not - if we're talking about fantastic "troubled" musicians, there are many more out there musically talented than Pete Doherty. Perhaps if he had blown the world away with his fantastic talent, I would understand. It just looks like he thinks this kind of lifestyle will lead him to become iconic rather than it being a consequence of accumulating such fame. I don't even know why he gets anything written about him - I'm not shocked by anything he does anymore. If you're gonna be a complete nutter, at least be fun with it or get help for the problem. He does neither. He looks like rubbish, is from what i've heard borderline useless at gigs and falls over alot. Wow, how rock n roll of you Pete. Problem is he has amassed a small gathering of loyal fans that follow him about and think he's something worth getting excited about. He's not. Pleb. The guy seems lik a complete nob though I was at that one. The "riot" was a bit overplayed by the media. I made a four-hour round trip to it, but I was fully aware that I was going to watch a band whose frontman was a heroin addict, hence the level of surprise when he didn't show was limited. The Libertines, and the first few months of Babyshambles, was amazing music-wise but now the drugs seem to be seriously compromising his ability to perform. Which is a shame, as he's a terrific songwriter.
