shetlandpeat
A 3 mile walk should take about an hour and a hour and 40 mins for 5..but does depend on agility and length of stride... I am sure if you have a walking buddy, you could do it, there will be plenty of folk who will help I am sure. I have e-mailed the paper so fingers crossed.... This cause is one that can be in most folks lives, most folk nowadays know someone who has it, one form or another... Keeping fit is one of the ways to stay healthy and in some way control the symptoms....

shetlandpeat
@piggywiggie Hi everyone, If you want to register for the 3 or 5 mile walk please email jdrf@hotmail.co.uk or phone/text 07736468933. Alternatively if you would like to make a donation please get in touch. Cheers Sandra It will be a fun day.. There was an article in the Times today that most childhood type 1 cases come about in the winter and not so much in the summer. Could activity levels be the link to that? sailor
Hi all, Good to see some interest in the walk but more importantly the subject. Our 3 year old daughter was diagnosed type 1 just before her 2nd birthday and has spurred sandra to organise the event, especially after going south and attending the Scottish event in Aberdeen. This condition can be dangerous and funding is needed to help find a cure. I hope you can all attend and encourage more to join you. If you can't make it consider a little donation on our just giving page http://www.justgiving.com/dafrasers Thanks Neil (***Mod Edit - Linkified link***)
sags
The link you've posted has a full stop at the end Sailor, so doesn't open, you'll need to edit it. Great charity, good luck with the event everyone!
sandyg
Hi all, Its great to see so many folk interested in this event. We have around 110 walkers registered now, of all ages, any children under 12 need to have an adult accompany them on the walk. I still have registration packs available to anyone wishing to register and collect sponsors, alternatively you can simply email me to register and take a donation with you on the day and take part in the event. We had set ourselves a very high target of 200 walkers, we never thought it achievable but with the interest this has generated i hope we will get pretty close to it!! We do still need marshalls and folk to help in the kitchens when all the walkers return so anyone wanting to give up their sunday afternoon i would love to hear from you. hope to see you all thereSandraemail jdrf@hotmail.co.ukor phone/text 07736468933 We also have a silent auction for a bottle of whiskey, so far we have had few responses so it looks like it might go for very little money!! The details of this are on the shetland news website posted 14th August, the bottle is on display within Ninian on Commercial Street (Opposite Boots) where you can leave your bids. Would make a very special birthday/christmas present for whisky lover!
