Just wondering what other folk think of the new series :?:

Personal opinion, after watching the first few episodes, is that Robert Carlyle's character, Nicholas Rush, has been set too much in the same vein as James Callis' portrayal of Gaius Baltar in "Battlestar Galactica". (I wonder if that's why the casting director went for a lookalike actor?)

Also, the thought crossed my mind that perhaps the writers thought that Star Trek Voyager didn't go deep enough into space.

I still like it, and will likely sit glued to it every week, but I'd like to know what other SG fans think. :D

I loved Stargate SG1 until Richard Dean Anderson gave it up, didn't like Atlantis much, this one isn't really anything new much as it tries to claim it is.

They've taken probably the best actor in the series and turned him into a prize dick because he is the best actor and think he can pull it off, unfortunately the character of Rush thus far has been very one dimensional so Carlyle can't seem to get any depth to what he is trying to play.

I'll keep watching it I just hope Carlyle's character develops a bit more.

Im liking it -but I've always been a huge fan of Stargate.

Have to agree though, they're definitely taking elements of other hit programs like Battlestar Galactica (ship falling to bits), Star Trek Voyager (Millions of light years from home), 12 hour countdowns (similar to 24).

Not seen much dialogue from Lou Diamond Phillips yet which is strange.

Three episodes in and while it looks spectacular in HD, it hasn't grabbed me in the same way that SG-1 did. Mind you, Atlantis season 1 was a bit slow to start and I enjoyed that so I'll stick with it though Season 1.

As to the OP about Begbie playing Dr Rush, I quite agree, but I suspect there's rather more to come from Robert Carlyle and his character.
