I would just like to congratulate Ally on his first ever posting where he has failed to mention he has a canadian girlfriend :D

Lol! Maybe I should mention my new bass Sammy, I forget who lent it to me. I might give it to my Canadian girlfriend as a gift  She loves bathing bass guitars in Labatt's ice and Red Stripe. It's a Canadian thing.

Anyway, back to the topic (PM me Sammy about the bass by the way)...

I read this about the movie - looks pretty promising http://www.funny.co.uk/news/art_166-2223-John-Shuttleworth-The-Movie.html

Well, whit did you aa think noo den?

It certainly wasn't an advert for shetland, but then it was never supposed to be. The shaky camera joke is just nearly annoying but not quite, and genuinely funny at times. It is, though, laugh-out-loud funny and a showcase of quaintness and observational comedy.

Elma is certainly a star in it.

I didna ken what tae expect and i certainly wisna disappointed.

Yeah, braaly good.

I saw it last night and thought it was good. But if i saw it and had not been to Shetland it would really put me off as Shetland looked so drab and boreing.

I did not think the people were very nice to poor John, they all seemed a bit baffeled and bemused, but no wonder!

Just been to see the film in Unst. Its certainly not "mainstream" but I really liked it. One or two bits where things go slightly flat but the vast majority is great. Or you could say is so bad its good.

If you haven't seen it your last chance to see it on the "big screen" in Shetland is Midyell tomorrow (friday).

Got my DVD tonight as well so I'll be going through the extras, one of which, which was shown in Unst, is a nice plug for the Unst PURE project.

Just got to see this the other weekend. It's actually really good! I had terrible visions of it being a total pisstake of backwards Shetland people - but the whole thing is very well put together.

I heard rumour that the guy liked it so much up here he's purchased a property?!? Good on him!

The only reason I actually stayed in my seat during the film was because it was in Shetland, and there was the remote possibility of "seeing someone I knew".

One thing I did wonder near the start...who did he bribe to park his car on the pier and film? I've been told to move off the pier whilst eating my bacon roll at 7.30 in the morning, and he just gets to film whilst, I may add, parking his car outwith the spaces. Filmstars, deary me.
