joenorth
My first bike at the age of 12 was also a BSA Bantam, but a 1961 175 D7. My dad got it for me for 20 quid if I mind right. It didn't charge, so I ran it on those big 6-volt torch batteries - I got through a lot of them! I remember flying up and down the Sands of Sound on it, and being chased by a staff-brandishing Sheriff Alastair MacDonald, who said I was making "too much bloody noise". Although the Bantam wasn't fast, he was a bit slower, so I didn't get the stick around my lugs! I had about three engines for it that I used to swap assorted bits on and off the bike. The Staney Hill was also a popular spot for the under-age biker. The most unusual bike I had was an ex-police Honda CB750K in South Australia twenty or so years ago. It had all the cop gear on it except the blue lights and radio. I had black leathers and a white helmet like the speedcops, and everything slowed down for me when they saw me in the mirror-I passed many more fast vehicles on that than I did on any other bike! Favourite bikes I've had- '69 Triumph T120 Bonnie, and '76 Kawasaki Z1000, which I still have.
Joesg
First fun on two wheels at age 10 was a peerie Honda monkey bike - saved for over a year and bought it from a boy Vidlin. Z50R I think was the model. A few years later sold it to another fellow from Vidlin and as far as I keen she's still dare. Later got a C90, DT 125, Honda Melody, Tomos club book moped (Ex Bully's star prize apparantly), D14 Bantam (1969), Italjet 350 Trials, FZR600, XL125, GS 500, Katana 650 (till She blew up) (did du ever get anidder engine beachcaster?), XV535 Virago and currently a FZR1000 Genesis. Still miss me peerie monkey bike though......

Ghostrider
Good old XL 125. Splendid bike. Agreed, although they got a bit shakey to keep in a straight line above 80. The knobbly tyres weren't up to it.
mudplugger
^^Never would have thought dat it wid get ta 80. What speed could you get out o dem?
Ghostrider
^^ Ahem....it was a mod. XL-185 head, block and crank on a XL-125 clutch, box and frame. I think she'd have made around 85 given the chance, but I had the added issue that it was dark, and had discovered that somewhere in the high 70's the headlight became effectively useless. Good old bike. MPS 948W, she finally died when the block cracked between an oil channel and the outside....hauled up at the Mucky Duck for a pint, and there was hot oil pishing eveywhere.
