Some get n some dont is how UK has always been and more especially scotland n up this way. Do you no understand how it aa REALLY works ? At the end of the day you are asassinating a family because a market collapsed, how brave is that ?

With an atitude like this, I suspect that this person is either a professional knitter or a salmon farmer

I believe that Hoosn deliberately posted that spurious nonsence following my posts.

Ah well Hoosn, very few understand what it is you rant on about anyway.

All you've done is taken up valuable space again.

Replying to posts with personal attacks seems to be pretty common on Shetlink. No wonder so many folk just view the threads and don't join in. It would be nice if people could put forward their own point of view in posts instead of just abusing others.

Off topic I know Mods, and sorry. But I don't like to see folk try and make themselves look clever at the expense of others.

Fair comment mainlander, the personal jibes are the reason a lot of people are reluctant to post. We forever live in hope that people will stick to the debate.

A response accusing someone of taking up space, by taking up further irrelevant space is ironic, no?

I think this cropped up before.

Oops, I just did the same, ah the irony.

So, until anything new crops up about 'Judane' .....

Serious question, Is Shetlink the 1st forum you've participated in?

Personally I find it to be the most tightly moderated forum I visit - winds me up at times but it keeps the mods of the streets.

The anonymity of the posters means that attacks aren't actually personal.

Nothing I've ever read on here I haven't heard word of mouth first - and I don't live in Shetland any more. Shetland gossip is legendary, the internet is just trying to catch up.

Yes, in fact it's the first I have even looked at! I had come across it accidentally while searching for Shetland news, just observed for a while, and then joined in.

But, while obviously not experienced in forum use, I don't agree that the anonymity of posters means that abuse is not personal. I am the same person whether someone is calling me by my real name or my user name, and I react to abuse of either in the same way.

I understand that some folk may create personas that they use on forums, and in that case they will not feel attacks as personal, but for those of us who are just ourselves it will continue to feel that way.

I don't think I had complained publicly about this until recently, and shetlandlady being chased off by abuse after just a few posts in one thread is the reason that I am being more vocal about it now.

It has seemed to me that Shetlink is designed as a forum for ordinary people to join in debate and make their point about all sorts of things, some important, some not. For that to happen freely, people need to feel comfortable that they and their views are respected, even if they are not agreed with.

I would have thought that a forum that is just used by folk who are happy giving and receiving personal abuse and attacks would be a very different place indeed.

Good on you if it doesn't bother you, Infiltrator, and I wish it didn't bother me either - but I am one of the thin-skinned brigade!

To me, the Mods have done a great job over the past few days. But, Mods, if you think all this should be in a separate "Personal Abuse on Shetlink" thread, I wouldn't blame you! Another long post from me on the same subject, I'm afraid, but I wanted to explain what I felt about it.

Suddenly, things have moved with incredible speed on Judane (Shetlland) Limited and one must wonder, why now?

This was a Loan that had gone 'Toxic' in the true sense of the word.

The Accounts Commission would certainly have been interested and will probably still look into it.

Part of their Audit, is to ensure that the SIC has not lost any money through negligent action.

Unfortunately (for the moment) the end result, is that the people of Shetland has 'coughed up' to the tune of 400,000.

It should be on the SIC to recover ALL of the money written-off as quickly as possible.

It is not clear, as to why personal assets of the Directors remain outside the settlement?

well we could say it may have something to do with one of the debtors being on the council. and another one being over friendly with someone else.

but we won't.

however if any of us owed a few hundred to the council be assured they would take you to court.

as a creditor make them bankrupt sell the assets and get what we can. writing the debt off allows them to sell off the factory for a nice profit.

Gosh.

Remember that Judane still had an outstanding claim against the SIC for the aborted sale to Chris Hodge.

The situation was complicated by the insurance claim and a writ served by the knitwear firm against the council following losses incurred as a result of a U-turn by the planning department several years ago. It is understood that SIC insurers’ advice was that Judane had a valid claim, but a settlement was able to be reached because of the firm’s reluctance to go down the road of a lengthy legal battle.

The alternative would seem to be a lengthy court battle with the only winners being the lawyers. This not the first time such a settlement has been reached by an SIC body where part of a loan has been written off as there was little prospect of recovery though the circumstances were a lot less controversial.

The timing of the decision doesn't do anybody any favours.

Not wanting to name anyone, but I am sure you all know who they are, it is pretty obvious to me that the same groups of people get lots of money from the Shetland public purse and for some reason go bust or can't pay back what they owe, this leaves everyone more than a little peed off.

The assets of the certain few who continue to abuse the trust of the people of Shetland should be taken as collateral on any more loans, or better still if you do get money and don't pay it back you should be unable to apply for assistance of any kind for at least the next ten years if ever.

It makes you wonder if there has been something fishy going on in the council over the years as these same groups keep going back for more and getting more without any consequences.
