GypsyScy
Scalloway seems a bit unsure! Some have gone to school and been sent home, others reckon the school is open. Apparently the advice is if they can stay at home keep them at home Surely the Burra school bus is stuck in the snow! I'm keeping mine home! CTGoode10
Yeahh,, Brae School is closed Not sure about the rest but im guessing all the schools in Shetland are closed because it seems to be bad everwhere! But if its as bad as it is in Brae anywhere else then they are DEFO closed! No Gritters either... wonder where they are... :S
breeksy
The plough was working the Kames when I was out just now. Ended up spinning and facing the wrong direction, so came home. The Kames isn't great, the 4x4's seem to be having no problem but it was very slippy, span once and had to be very careful as the car nearly gave way a couple more times. JustMe
First thing I have to say is that SIBC can only carry announcements about school closures when they are given official information from the council. So no blaming Ian. Next thing is to say that this is a complete mess. Teachers, parents, pupils and school transport drivers should demand that there is a full enquiry into what went wrong with the decision making system for weather related school closures this time and how to ensure the same thing does not happen again. My final point is aimed at parents. Surely they are in the best position to make a judgement on the state of the roads where they live and they should be able to decide that they are not going to send their children to school along dangerous roads. Shoogler
Well said Justme. It's not as if this weather wasn't forecast. We all know a blast from the north can mean proper snow and lot's of it. The schools have been closed on previous occasions (as recently as mid December)when frankly they should have stayed open.
