Just goes to show that there's no such thing as bad publicity. A couple of references in the local rags recently (ST and SN et al) and bingo - Shetlink is beginning to be recognised as a fun debating forum with a lot of contributory fingers "on the pulse".

Could possibly be the Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#/group.php?gid=49551141980&ref=mf - I came across it only this week when a young friend of mine who is a student at St Andrews joined. He bides sooth and I had no idea he had a Shetland connection, but stuff spreads like wildfire on Facebook and there was a wall post in the group saying ‘And we’re mentioned on Shetlink!’.

^^ Yahoo, or rather BT Yahoo is a strange search engine. It fires down multiple bots at a time and 'eats' away at your web pages in bursts. The 222 was part of a particularly high time for users for a Shetland subject (which I forget right now) and Yahoo decided to take a turn on Shetlink at the same time ... hence that high user count.

The last month though Shetlink is averaging across several hours after and during 'denner time' 50 - 70+ unique registered users / guests (from majoritly UK IP addresses) at any one time. Not bad at all really. The more the merrier.

Its a good thing really. Do come forward anyone with any ideas etc. that you would like to see incorporated into Shetlink. This website is your resource. Its here to enable everyone to "share information, share resources and communicate ideas". If Shetlink can in any way assist in doing this that it isn't currently don't hesitate to enquire.

There must be someone out there who remembers what the topic of that day spurred on the amount of users that was online on that day . I am relativy new user to Shetlink and cant think of what would have expressed the high interest on that day ! Anyway I cant imagine life without Shetlink so keep up the good work posters and mods :) :) :)

I've enjoyed (if thats the right word) seeing Shetlink being used in the way the snow has inspired, exchanging up to date road conditions, school closeures, Up Helly Aa etc.

It may just be in my head, but I believe the twitter/facebook style of "thought posting" has livened up forums in general. By that I mean people get the idea, but why tweet to the few people I already know, when I can make a quick post on Shetlink and get some other views, react to them, etc.

Sorry, off topic, probably rambling, but it is friday :D

It might have had nothing to do with it, but that was the folk festival weekend.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello

I got a private message supposedly from "ModeratorAdmin" here about my computer having a virus.

I haven't even visited, let alone posted on, Shetlink for over a year, so I fail to see how this has cropped up. I am using a brand new Mac computer (with nothing on it!) and I live in Sweden (with a new ISP), so I can't imagine I am passing on any viruses.

Or is this a hoax???

Stu
