Give them an inch and they'll take a mile, they'll be banning folk from smoking in their own houses soon, its the next logical step. Not to put a too fine point on it, they can just f*** right off! Are you trying to suggest that us smokers haven't already paid through the nose for anything we may claim from the NHS? The Govt. take is currently standing at £3.50+/20. I'll only buy it that smokers are in the red to the man when I see independently audited figures proving it. At the same time I'll expect to see similar figures proving the status of alcohol related costs to the NHS vs. the Govt. take on it, and I'll expect to see legislation enacted to tax currently illegal "drugs" which costs the NHS but contributes nothing, etc, etc, so that there is parity in the NHS across the board for all "high risk" groups, and not just a witch hunt against smokers. Would you agree (using that rationality) that lung/throat/mouth cancer is a personal choice? If you're unlucky (used loosely) enough to contract any of these deseases, It'll kill you. No one is questioning anyone's right to smoke here, what I think the ban is trying to safeguard are the innocent passive smokers... passengers in vehicles especially children who are sitting in confined spaces and having to breathe in smoke from cigarettes... Also in answer to "it's my body....." All very well but who has to stump up the cash for treatments for you when you are diagnosed with a cancer that is caused by your life choice? To comment on the user who asked "how many more police will we require to enforce the ban?" Would more police really be a bad thing if this was required? Don't forget that the police already have to enforce the law when it comes to drivers who use their mobile phones when driving. Perhaps enforcing the smoking ban will not be as difficult as enforcing the mobile phone ban.... smoke remember leaves a smell which would not be as simple to hide. Perhaps what the police will require is a good sense of smell. Bring on the ban that's what I say, and what a disappointment that Mr Darling did not hike up the duty on tobacco products today...another missed opportunity!!!!
