Kavi Ugl
I'm not sure how I forgot about this but for anyone looking for house ideas(if you're lucky enough to be able to afford your own house!) here's Norway's leading house website. There are some fantastic house ideas so just click on one of the various companies and have a look. http://www.hus.no/
Kavi Ugl
Found another house(ideas) website while browsing the internet today. http://www.loghomevillage.com/fotogalereya/
Kavi Ugl
Found two Faroese house building websites for any potential new house builders. For the first one, just click on any of the sections/links and you get the various houses during construction etc. The link Snið Hús shows you all the different designs on one page. http://www.kstimburhus.fo/index.htm For Nordsetur if you want to see colour photos of the various houses just click on Myndasavn then either the blue word Snið under each house or the picture itself. http://www.nordsetur.fo/
enkelt skapninger
Thanks for the links, Kavi Ugl.We've been looking at the new Skye Homes Coastal range of houses which look like they'd fit in in Shetland, but above are very interesting. PS: Though the log home looks a bit Hansel & Gretel!!
Kavi Ugl
No problem at all I've never heard of the Skye Coastal Range and until I went back and googled it had fears that it would be that boring and drab old scottish style of house that's considered "traditional" as seen on the rest of their website but to my surprise they're actually timber clad and look very nice. I'm just trying to bring some Scandinavian and Nordic house designs to folk's attention because it's light years ahead of what has been built, and is sadly still being built in Shetland. Those Coastal Range houses look nice as mentioned but if you haven't started building yet there's always time to plump for a nice Scandinavian style house.... Infiltrator
Pretty sure there's a Skye house in Bressay and a similar one in Yell, don't know if they're the coastal range though?
Kavi Ugl
Could well be, but if it's what I've previously seen on the SIC planning website I think they're the old dreaded style of block and harl/render. I personally think those Skye houses look dreadful and drab but the timber clad Coastal Range seem quite nice looking.
Infiltrator
They're definitely wooden kits - the one on Bressay is the white one at the North end, you can see it clearly when you come down Ladies Drive into Lerwick. They both went up about 4 or 5 years ago.
Kavi Ugl
Ah, ok, my mistake - it's just that I've noticed one or two planning applications that had houses which resembled those Skye houses. This is another Norwegian house builder's website. Some beautiful designs. http://www.ranahytta.no/hytter/ And this is a list of Norwegian house building companies and again there are some stunning house designs on the various websites. http://www.nettkatalogen.no/bransjelist/hus_byggesett/1.htm
enkelt skapninger
There's what I think is a Skye home in Aith as well. As you drive along the road from Bixter it is on your right. It isn't one of the coastal range, but it is still a lovely house. We've been looking very seriously at Norwegian kits, and may well plump for one (if we can afford it!) No, no, I wasn't refering to the build quality but what I mean is in terms of design, character, colour and freshness. Most of what has been built in Shetland over the past few decades is basically just a rectangle covered in harl, or just a square grey blob!. My inspiration for this thread comes from a holiday in Norway a couple of years ago which opened my eyes and left me releasing just how drab and lifeless our houses/housing are. enkelt skapninger
Siffy the Erlund homes look fantastic,The fact that they are based on Shetland and therefore the money spent on building the house would remain on Shetland is very important to us when we build. My wife has her heart set on a Skye home, but this may just change her mind. Thank you.
