unlinkedstudent
Yes and for any chance of that we need a well hung parliament this time round ... The best political observation I have seen for a while.Yes, they should all be hung. Good grief, not more men in power please - haven't they ballsed things up enough? <
Gorgonzola Butt-cheese
Yes there should be at least an equal number of women in political work , although several of the recent high level ladies in power leave a lot to be desired, as corrupt and incompetant as many of their male counterparts. There are way to many career politicians nowadays , Westminster , Holyrood , Brussels . We have thousands of mostly career politicians now , far more than we ever did , yet we pay more tax and are constantly told we will need to pay more and get less services back . Talk about too many cooks spoiling the broth , extremly well paid cooks with excellent pension packages who still had to rip of there expenses with glee . Brussels is very a very well paid gravy train for the political class and the lib dems are the most pro europe - " (Jobs for the boys and girls). Thats why the 3 main parties of mostly career politicians with no grounding in the real world are so keen on this parliament - ITS THE GRAVY TRAIN ! and we are paying for it ! And our Liberal MSP DID LIE TO US !! , he had to resign from his front line bench in 2001 . They have done NOTHING for the benefit of our core industries . The have done NOTHING to bring us fairer fuel prices and by that I mean in line with the national average. Tell me what have they done ?? JA Stewart you would understand me better if you had witnessed the wholesale destruction of good quality fish or had tried to run a business. Actually , have you ever done a real days work and then been told you must dump your produce to meet legislative requirements and avoid prosecution? In fact what work do you do ? A vote for Lib Dem is a vote for the continuation of the above as is a torie or labour vote. UKIP field far more candidates from real working jobs and most of them have paid for themselves to stand . khitajrah
May I ask another really stupid question? When I go to my local polling station to cast my vote what will be written on the ballots? Who will I have to choose from - the national party leaders or the local candidates or both? What happens if I want to vote for a party that isn't represented in my area (hypothetically)? To be honest this is the first time in my life I've ever paid attention to an election. Please forgive my ignorance.
MuckleJoannie
On your ballot paper you will find a list of the candidates for the Orkney and Shetland constituency with a short description for each, normally related to the party they are standing for. Your choice is limited to the individuals named so if the party of your choice has no candidate standing here you have had it. Traditionally in the UK you are voting for the candidate, not the party. I can recall a time when only the candidate's name appeared on the ballot paper.
Skunnered
I can never vote lib dem as I have no trust of them , Tavish lied to the fishermen of shetland in 2001 . And with that act he proved that they as a party can lie to us all . And with that the trust has been broken permanantly. These people need to shown that its not a fore gone conclusion that they get the job , I think that would lead to better performance .They all lie (they call it "spin"). It's a question of which one lies the least!
