shetlandpeat
What did Northlink say when you asked them about it? Contracts? Risk assessments, best ask them.
glipper
It seems very much like Northlink are damned if they do and damned if they don't..What ever they do gets a slagging on here if they didn't leave last night i'm sure you would all be moaning about that too... JustMe
But it does make one wonder if a linkspan at Fraserburgh would help for those times when Aberdeen is closed.

And the cost to install one is ? Berthing every other Blue Moon will generate how much income for the harbour ?
shetlandpeat
The cost would have to be a burden for the tax payer. Cannot see that happening.P&O had their problems too, the biggest problem now is folks expectations.
Spinner72
^^ And communication. We now know almost everything that happens instantly with updates via all forms of media from multiple sources. Only a few years ago it would have been a case of a few "Boy did du hear da sooth boat didna run da last day"'s or a mention on Radio Shetland or in the Times.. MuckleJoannie
I think I heard on Radio Shetland tonight that Northlink boss Bill Davidson is on the boat that docked at Rosyth. Getting a dose of his own medicine I guess.

There's not much room in the enterance of the Fraserburgh harbour for this size o ships especially in adverse weather conditions..Better you than me...!!!!! Mattie
Why are they not using Invergordon as a port? Instead of Rosyth..?
JustMe
OK so no Fraserburgh and I believe Invergordon has a linkspan so that would make sense. Downside would be the temptation to make the decision long before reaching Aberdeen. Of course fixing the entrance to Aberdeen would help. Maybe only a few diversions but lots of delays getting in and out of the harbour.
Infiltrator
Why are they not using Invergordon as a port? Instead of Rosyth..? Why don't you ask them, presumably there's a good reason.
MuckleJoannie
I have a feeling that the linkspan was removed a few years ago. It certainly isn't mentioned on their website. http://www.cfpa.co.uk/port-activities/cargo/
Mutton
Ok, so we have hurricane force 12 winds on Christmas Day. Winds are still up to storm force 10 on Boxing day. Despite that the boat goes - as it should. Then why on earth does Northlink Ferries insist on cancelling other times when the weather isn't half as bad? Oh yeah I forgot, the boat will be busy and the crew will be wanting to get home. Give Shetland a single cheque Westminster/Holyrood and let Shetland run its own affairs. fionajohn
i think the direction of wind has a lot to do with whether they sail or not

Not to mention a new crew going onboard then eh? Not to mention the fact that when crew members' shifts finish THEY can't get home either! And no, they can't always kip onboard.
