Gillemath
Hey all I'm new here, and I don't live in Shetland (unfortunatly). I'm writing a booklet which will be online in PDF form on Scandinavian languages, free of copyright. I think Shaetlan should be included due to the influence, and since there is little about the language already on the internet I thought it'd be a good idea. Could someone perhaps translate the following passages, ideally with accentation marks as this is the way I've seen Shaetlan written before, although it doesn't really matter.I don't expect you to look up original words, I'd like to see Shaetlan as a living language, aka how you people would use it. I will obviously credit the translator when I use their translation So, just the translation of the following: What is your name?My name is...How are you?I am fine...Where do you live?I live in North ShetlandHow do I get to Shetland? You can go by plane or ferry from the mainland Shaetlan is a variety of Scots spoken in the Shetland islands. It does not have the status which Scottish Gaelic does in Western Scotland, although it is still used as a living language/dialect. I shall travel to the Shetland islands this summer by ferry from Scotland. I would like to visit the historical sites on Orkney as well, as well as go fishing. And the Runrig song Alba: This flight is sailing through the cloudsAnd the blue heavensThe homeland appears like a developing photographThrough the mists as I return to landI see Scotland of the high mountainsAnd the empty acresFlying low across the moorland lochsThe forests and the glens Scotland Scotland But it's a wounding and a hollow sightHere as we reach the end of the centuryThe beautiful soil of the peopleStill in the hands of the few I see the wheels of industry at a standstillAnd the northern lands wastedAnd the empty house in EdinburghWithout authority or voice Scotland Scotland You that have laid field upon fieldHouse upon houseTill there be nowhere for you to be placed aloneIn the midst of all the earthBut it is good for me to be here nowAs I welcome the warmthIn this land that's as exciting for me todayAs it was the day I was born Scotland Sorry if I'm asking too much here, it's not as if I need this translation, it's just I thought it would be a nice idea to include it just for the sake of interest Many kind regards Linden

Gillemath
Thanks, tapadh leibh Aye, aa ken fit yer sayin, aa dinnie think that Shetland fowk wud sing fer Bonnie Scotlang, yer richt. So aa cud change tha lyrics so that they're aboot Shetland instead. The reason aa chose tae use this song was acause it wud seem lik a guid song tae use so that fowk can compare Inglis, Gaelic an Shaetlan.
